A posh date night @ Luna Sky Bar, Four Seasons DIFC

With mum here, and the little one having a sort-of regular pattern – we thought it would be a good idea to go for a date night i.e without bringing the pram / baby bag / baby. Oh and also get a bit more dressed up than usual. With only a handful of dresses that I can still fit in (yes I know I need to start exercising, and quit moaning…..), we both got dressed up on Tuesday for a quiet night in at the newly opened Luna Sky Bar, Four Seasons in the DIFC.

I was very excited. We had missed a previous event held there when I was like an elephant (i.e 39 weeks pregnant) – I didn’t think being around ladies in small cocktail dresses would do my self-esteem any good. Anyways, coming back to Luna Sky Bar 🙂

We valeted, and went up to Level 8 of the Four Seasons in DIFC. The indoors of Luna Sky Bar with it’s gold carpet and dim lights gives you a feel of a sophisticated after-work bar that those in the area would go to for a drink or two. It’s was quiet at 7:30pm on a Thursday evening, with a few men in suits around by the bar and couches. We picked the couch area. It’s a date night, gotta get cosy, right? 😉

A scan of the menu puts Luna Sky Bar on the high-end of bars in Dubai (pun intended), with a glass of white starting at 70 AED, and cocktails ranging from 65 AED to 100AED. I started with the Phoebe – mixture of lavender infused bombay gin, housemade ginger and chamomile syrup with fresh lemon juice. Slightly sweet , little bit tangy, it was nice start for the evening. G went for the Macallan Negroni – which they’ve described on the menu as a Scottish “maschio” – as it’s a mixture of four different alcohols – not for the weak-hearted!

There’s a few things you could order at Luna Sky Bar. We were recommended the yucca fritters, and as we’ve never had these before reminded us of sweet potato fritters / mini hash browns. These came hot, and with aioli was delicious.

The empanada babacoa were smoked beef briskets with pickled sweet peppers came crispy on the outside with tasty fillings. My favourite was probably the gulf prawns which came with what seemed initially like satay sauce. The menu said yuzu leche di tigre which I then found out to be ‘tiger’s milk’ , a peruvian term for citrus-based marinade, which explained the tanginess.

We had another drink each, moving onto another recommendation – the Indigo. Flammable drinks always gets me excited and I much preferred this to the Phoebe – sweeter maybe? Or maybe it was just the fiery touch 🙂

We finished off the night trying out two of their desserts. Beignets – tasted like deep fried doughnuts coated in caramel and nuts, with Jack Daniels. Oh, it was so good.

The chocolate marquis pictured below was rich, a bit too rich for our liking, so it was good that it came in a small portion and I would recommend that you share them. Desserts are always meant to be shared 🙂

Now I know it all seems quite pricey, but here’s one option you could do to check out the place (Liloneoftheashes tip!)

They have an Aperitivo menu, where cocktails are all priced at 60 AED and for those wanting something a little more sophisticated – Moet & Chandon on Ice or Veuve Clicquot for 85 AED. With that you get antipasto similar to the below with compliments.

The best bit : the outdoor terrace. I can see it being full during the winter months, especially it being in the DIFC overlooking the Burj. On a humid July night it was unfortunately empty except for yours truly, armed with a camera that kept fogging up 🙂 Even the lazy husband couldn’t be bothered going outside to check it out. It’s so hot now isn’t it.

Nice to see more new bars popping up in Dubai. It never ends isn’t it. That’s what we love about this city. Have you been to Luna Sky Bar or the Four Seasons DIFC ? I’ve seen pretty photos of their afternoon tea in Penrose Lounge – would be keen to go there with the girls. Unfortunately none of the food outlets in this hotel is showing up in the Entertainer or similar, I hope they do join it soon. Until then, go check out the bar during their Aperitivo hours of 5:00 – 8:00 pm 🙂 You’ll have to get a little dressed up though – we saw a group of young lads shown out as they were a wee bit casual.
