Dolphin Khasab Tours – A Morning through the Musandam fjords

In February when the parents were here, we did a road trip to Musandam. Two cars, two families, with popo (grandma) and gong gong (grandpa). It would have been our first trip to Musandam.

As everyone does on their trip there : we too did the boat tour to see the famous dolphins. We were recommended ‘Dolphin Khasab Tours’ Tour operator from friends – so we went with it 🙂

An introduction

When we got in touch with the team – they advised that we could do either the half-day tour or full-day tour. As we were were travelling with young kids and grandparents, we didn’t want to make it too long a journey in case anyone got sea-sick or tired. We went with the half-day tour and it was perfect.

Here’s Dolphin Khasab Tour’s description of the half-day morning tour, which goes from 9:30am till 1:00pm

Enjoy an unforgettable experience cruising through the “fjords of the Musandam” on board our traditionally decorated Omani dhow, where you can sit comfortably on cushions and carpets while feasting your eyes on the striking scenery. A dhow trip offers an insight into the fantastic landscape. Discover ancient villages and swim and snorkel in the clear waters off Telegraph Island. There is a distinct possibility you may see dolphins along the way. Refreshments, life jackets and towels are provided.

Where to meet

We were staying in Atana Musandam and the meetup point for Dolphin Khasab Tours was literally a few minutes walk in front of the entrance. Perfect, right? 🙂 It’s a kiosk by the side of Lulu Hypermarket. Here’s the Dolphin Khasab Tours Meet-up point Google location.

After signing in, everyone convoys to the dock, which is a very short – possibly 5 minute drive. Take note that you will have to use your own car from there, to the dock. We had a minor hiccup as we were short of one car (long story…), so the team very kindly took my brother’s family in their truck.

The journey

As the dhow leaves the port, and makes its away into the fjord – your journey begins. The scenery is breath-taking, all throughout. The calmness of the water, the jagged mountain formations, and just the immense size of the area in comparison to the traditional dhow that we were on. It’s quite spectacular to think that Dubai and all its skyscrapers is just 3 hours away by car.

We didn’t see as many dolphins as our trip at Mirbat but we still loved every bit of it – especially that we were doing it with extended family this time round.

Here’s a gallery of just a couple of the many photos that we took that day :

If you’re going to Musandam – you definitely have to do a dolphin boat tour 🙂
