A Family Lunch @ Gal, Address Downtown Dubai

It was nice to return to Gal with the family, after a sneak peak of the venue in an event in the summer. With good weather in Dubai right now, we chose to sit outside in their terrace this time. Do not worry – every spot you choose, you will be overlooking the mammoth structure that is the Burj Khalifa. It is such a magnificient building, after all these years, don’t you think?

So – how was lunch with the family at Gal?

Lunch? Brunch? What is it?

Every (Saturday and) Sunday – Gal offers a set menu to those coming to dine in their venue. You can go for 2-courses for 215 AED, or 3-courses for 225 AED.

We were served the chicken milanese – Gal’s version of a chicken caesar salad. It was nice to start off with something light, though we would have appreciated a little less dressing. Loved the ‘Gamberreti Guvec‘ – this was stewed prawns with garlic, parsley and green chilli peppers.

Amongst the next servings to the table – the lamb chops was our absolute favourite. Having the gnocchi alongside, complemented the heavier taste from the meat very well. To mention that these two dishes are from their Ala Carte menu.

The Zucchini Cacik (from the Starters in the Family Lunch menu) was a hit with all of us – buttered and fried zucchini served with cacik dip. Kinda like a ‘healthier’ version of fries? 🙂

Have a browse through Gal’s Family Lunch menu here. From the main courses – there are 7 options from which you can choose from – pan fried salmon, grilled chicken palliard, saslik, amongst others.

How’s the crowd like?

Based on the higher price-point, you could see that Gal attracts the elite – those who are happy to splurge a little for a lunch with that stunning view. Guests are very well-dressed and if you know a little about shoes and bags – you can see that they’ve worn and brought out their best, or one of their many best.

There were a few families present – with either very young toddlers (under 2), or older children (6 and above). Most of the crowd were groups of adults. I would suggest that you bring a little something to keep the little ones entertained if you go 🙂

Christmas Day Special

As we were there on Christmas Day itself, there were a few extra bits that came into play during our lunch at Gal.

Face painting for the little ones, Santa bearing gifts and lots of smiles, and a giant panettone for dessert. Absolutely loved watching them trolley out that giant panettone and serving it to the tables.

Things that could be better

Service was rather slow that day – and it wasn’t really that busy when we first got there at 3pm in the afternoon. Would suggest for the team to ask if guests would like another drink, after removing empty glasses. Or when dessert is served, if they would like a coffee. Little things like that.

Personally we did feel that the lunch pricing is rather high, particularly as it did not include any drinks at all. May be a good idea to include at least water or a coffee/tea.

Overall thoughts.

Check the menu before you go – so you know what to expect. And if the menu suits, bring the little ones to the family lunch at Gal, or otherwise return another day with your other half or friends for a fancy evening out. You can jump on the crescent and take a photo like all the many who have done so 🙂
