The last time we had dinner at Demon Duck with the kids – we got there way too late, everyone was too grumpy and tired – and we ended up asking for it to be taken away and eaten at the room (Yes, we were there on a staycation). So when we found out that Demon Duck was doing a friday evening brunch at 6pm, we figured – okay, that’s a safe time to bring the kids. Why not? 😉 So we did.

Here’s how our evening went, and what to expect should you decide to try out Demon Friday Feast. Note : Kids, completely optional. In fact – this brunch would be a great one with adults but hey – it’s up to you to decide. Keep reading.

The Journey

We were running so late on a Friday evening, and got to Banyan around 6:50pm. This was early September, at the end of the summer season. The sun had already set, casting a warm, muted orange near the horizon, transitioning into a dusty lavender and light blue just above. Sunsets at Banyan have always been spectacular – irrespective of the time of the year. Tip : Get there earlier so you can snap up these gorgeous photos.

As we were quite familiar with the place – we asked if we could cut through Alizee to get to Demon Duck to maximise the AC journey. To be honest – the weather is much cooler now in the evenings so please don’t be cheeky (like us) and just take the normal way. You get to walk pass the pool – which will be brightly lit in the evenings, which means more photo ops for the family as well!

The Venue

We got to Demon Duck and it was pretty much full-house at 7pm on a Friday evening. Dim lighting, the place abuzz wih chatter. Various groups of adults, and some – with older kids, like us. We were much relieved to be ushered to the other, smaller dining space – where another family was sat. It felt like a private dining area.

There were no one sat outside at the time as it was still warm – but gosh, I can imagine how nice it’ll be be once the weather cools down a bit more.

The Feast

Experiencing the brunch with kids – is (of course) quite different compared to our date afternoon for their Saturday Brunch. The menu – from what I could see, is more or the less the same. This time – instead of watching the team prepare the ‘chop chop suey’, the kids got to have a turn tossing the corn, edamame, bean sprouts and more together. Might as well get them involved, isn’t it.

The starters came next, presented on a gold-plated tier. I expected no less. My personal favourite will have to be their wasabi prawn toast, served with tobiko and mango salsa. It was amusing watching the kids attempt to try these refined chinese dishes. Food items that they are normally very familiar with if it was served as it is, but here – they question every spice, every flake, every piece of garnish that have been added. Gotta elevate their tastebuds beyond plain pasta at some point, hey? 🙂

Demon Duck do have a kids’ menu called ‘Little Duckies Menu’ and all 3 of mine loved their Chicken & Sweetcorn Soup. I know it sounds so simple but it does come served in the cutest little yellow duck soup bowl. It’s creamy, and filled with little chicken pieces.

The Duck & The Mains

For mains – you choose a dish each, all served with egg fried rice. We were quite relieved to see that the portions were not too big, as were so stuffed already by then. We very fondly remembered how much we loved Demon Duck’s egg fried rice and it was the same this time round. As we’ve last mentioned – you can quite easily judge a venue by how well they execute their simplest of dishes, and in this case, it will be their egg fried rice. The rice is just right – not too salty, not too wet, not too dry. It has to be this way, so it complements (instead of overwhelms) the flavours from the mains.

And my favourite from the mains, yet again? Both – the sweet and sour chicken, and shrimps with cashew nuts.

To end the night – you’ll be presented with Demon’s Dessert Platter. As always, it comes with all the theatrics and I’m so glad we brought along the kids this time. All the many wows and running their little hands through the thick low-lying fog, flowing off the dessert platter across the tabletop. There’s ice-cream – of course, and my favourite – is still Demon Duck’s signature chocolate and matcha fondant. Sweet, with a slight tinge of savoury from the matcha. Perfect way to end the evening.

Overall Thoughts

Whilst we experienced the Demon Friday Feast with kids – it would honestly be such a good spot for an early date night, or a gathering with just friends. The indoors is such a vibe on a Friday evening. Come winter – you can pick a spot at their outdoor terrace and I tell ya – it’s got such a gorgeous view of the sunset from there.
