carine is an award-winning French-Mediterranean restaurant located in Emirates Golf Club, founded by acclaimed Chef Izu Ani. If you were not aware, it is named – affectionately, after his wife. That’s as romantic as it gets, isn’t it? And romantic – is definitely the vibe this restaurant gives. So you must wonder – what about families? Is carine a dinner date place – or, are families, welcomed? Is it even open in the morning?
Well well. We went over one Sunday morning with the kids (yes, with the kids) to review the venue over breakfast. And yes – they do open for breakfast. Read on.
The venue
As we walked in, we were greeted with big smiles from the lady at the front desk. Beautiful bright blue eye shadows and a smart dress on ; something I could never pull off. She looked amazing ( and I wished now – that I told her so ). Hope you’re reading this!
At 10am on a Sunday morning, the place was already half full. There were a few tables with older children like ours, and groups of adults. White-tableclothes, and a combination of mint-green couches and sand-coloured fabric chairs. My linen dress was of the same shade – and I felt a little smug I was colour-coordinated with the interior.
The Breakfast Experience
We went through carine’s breakfast menu. You’ll find four sections – eggs, sweets, tartines & home-made pastries. It is in french, but don’t worry – there is the english equivalent right next to it so there is no need to test your french at 10am in the morning.
I went for the Eggs Royale with smoked salmon (60 AED). Served on a cast-iron skillet, my poached eggs were perfect – a little runny, as requested, with rich, creamy hollandaise draped generously over.
The husband was initially a little disappointed with the size of his dish – as it simply just appeared smaller than mine. But really – it was a decent dish of scrambled eggs blanketed with delicate ribbons of smoked salmon (66 AED) served with toasted bread.
The kids went straight with the sweets – of course. The waffles were a hit. Four generous soft and fluffy quarters, freshly prepped – and served with chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and berries (50 AED). They also had french toast with jam and whipped cream (70 AED), as well as an omelette with everything inside.
To be honest – we all had a taste of everything on the table. A bit of savoury and sweet for a Sunday morning.

A cosy, chic spot for a family breakfast
Over the course of the morning, more people were coming in for that late breakfast, or what the rest of the world calls “brunch” time. You’ll be happy to know that carine opens for breakfast in the weekends from 9am until 12:30pm. So if you want to pop in at 11am for a late one – by all means, do. carine‘s one of those places where you can get dressed up for a nice cup of coffee and croissant – and not feel out of place. Whilst it definitely welcomes families – it will definitely be a really good spot for that girls breakfast you have been planning for awhile. Psst – they do serve mimosas and breakfast martinis in the morning!
Here’s a peek of their outdoor terrace, which is currently enclosed within a pergola for the summer months. Note that this area is for adults-only as smoking is allowed and we are glad to see that they’ve properly enforced it as well. In a few weeks the pergola will come off and you’ll get to have a spot overlooking the beautiful golf courses from here!
