Gingerbread House Making Fun at Cucina the Palm Dubai

Cucina the Palm is launching their Gingerbread House-making sessions and Festive Set Menu and we got the opportunity to review it late November with the kids, together along with my brother’s family. It’s such a fun thing to do with family and friends – and I gotta warn you – it’s only available in December so you gotta book in quick!

Here’s all your need to know about Cucina’s Gingerbread Creations and Festive Gathering Offer.

Where is Cucina the Palm?

If you haven’t been to Cucina yet – c’mon, where have you been?!

Cucina is Marriott Resort Palm Jumeirah Dubai’s cosy Italian trattoria – located on the ground floor. As you walk into the lobby, just head to the far right end. You’ll see their gelateria in front – which at this point you’ll have to stop the kids from running in. Slight left, and there you are – a warm, rustic Italian restaurant with brick-cladded walls and wooden flooring. It’s romantic, yet has enough space to accomodate families.

Where exactly is the Gingerbread House-making held in?

A highlight of the activity is that it is actually done in their private dining area, known as the ‘Chef’s Office’.

It’s built to mimic an Italian kitchen, with a high marble countertop and leader-clad stools. The younger two, aged 5 and 7 sat on the high bar stools to do the activity whereas everyone else just stood around as it was much easier. The good thing about the bar stools ( other than that’s it’s so chic with its leather seat and antique brass finish frame ) – is that it has a low curved back so if you have younger kids, just push the stool right next to the counter top and they wouldn’t be able to fall off. That is of course, they don’t decide to climb over it…..

What is the entire setup like?

The team will have the houses semi-built on the countertop, with all the toppings and icing ready.

A big highlight to mention is that they provide really nice decorations to use at Cucina. I gotta say – the team have put a LOT of love to this project. Other than icing, marshmallows, gummi bears and M&Ms – you’ll also find super cute festive-themed chocolates and gingerbread cookies to add.

And here’s one of the gingerbread roofs – decorated by my 9-year old girl and nephew.

How big is this Gingerbread House in Cucina the Palm?

Each plane of the roof itself is 30cm by 30cm, and once constructed, it’s about 35cm from base to apex. It is GIGANTIC. That’s also what makes it fun as there is a minimum of two people per Gingerbread House – so you can decorate it together.

Will the team be present to assist?

Absolutely – and they are by your side throughout the afternoon. As the house is so big, a lot of hands are actually required to ensure the house can actually be built. Plates and cups are used as scaffolding to support the roof once it’s ‘glued’ on with icing sugar. The team comes around with some fancy hand-held device to melt the icing sugar, reinforcing it further. It’s teamwork – festive-edition.

Can we book the activity for the kids, and the parents support and have drinks on the side?

Of course you can.

It’s basically a minimum of 2 pax per Gingerbread House, which makes it 145 AED x 2 = 290 AED a house. To make a reservation there is also a minimum of 4 pax, which essentially means 2 no. Gingerbread Houses. So if you have say 4 kids coming in, and parents hanging around to support – you can order some drinks and nibbles in the private dining area.

A fun team activity to do this festive season

I emphasized “team” – as this is not just for kids! You could organise a team building get-together here or make it a date night. Yes – Cucina is licensed so you can have a glass (or four) while building a gingerbread house. They do have an option to upgrade to 2 hours of free-flow craft tap beverages for just 140 AED. What a deal, right? Or, stay on for a proper lunch or dinner, and do their Festive Set Menu. That is what we really liked about the experience – that we all had fun together, the 5, 7 and 9 year olds ( got them to get off the iPad! ), as well as the adults 🙂

Leaving you with a photo of my (44-year old) brother’s Gingerbread House. Might suit ‘Nightmare before Christmas’ theme… haha

Dubai resident. Stays most of the time in the marina as she can't be bothered going anywhere else after work and in the weekends. Originally from the land of the orang utans, spent the latter half of her life in the land down under. Always on the look out for deals, loves organising get-togethers, and occasionally steals some time for a sip of wine or four at ladies nights.
