Breakfast @ Mondoux, The Beach JBR Dubai

Boy was I glad to find out that Mondoux had reopened a sister branch in our neighbourhood – here in The Beach, Jumeirah Beach Residence. I had always wanted to check out the Creek Harbour branch but never got the chance to head up that way.

We drove over to the new branch here in The Beach one weekday morning to review the venue, mum and the 2-year old in tow.

Here’s our first impressions.

So, where exactly is Mondoux in JBR?

Mondoux is located in – what I’ll call the ‘central’ area, where Masha and the Bear and Cheesecake Factory is located. It’s where the little carnival stores are situated.

Where shall I park, if I’m driving over?

You can enter via North or South entrance of The Beach and head towards the middle. Park by the blue columns, and you can come up via lift or the escalators. You will see Cuckoo’s on your left, walk straight towards the carnival and Mondoux is the first one on your right.

Easy, right?

You get 3 hours free parking if you spend 100AED.

How’s the place like?

I cannot remember what used to occupy that space – but usually all F&B outlets in that area occupies both ground and first floor. Mondoux has opened up the entire area (that is, considering that the previous place didn’t have a floor on first…), which makes the space feel grand with the high ceiling.

They have light wooden floors, rattan chairs and wooden tables. It’s all beige and white, and with the light streaming it – it is nice and bright.

How was breakfast?

Mondoux has quite a few options in their breakfast menu. They remind me somewhat of Brunch and Cake : beautifully and carefully presented dishes and drinks. Not as over the top though (if you know what I mean), but close enough 🙂 Their price is fairly close as well.

Acai Smoothie bowl for 58 AED (got it for the 2 year old, and for the gram, haha) – and yes, it did look like it was literally taken out of the menu. The same could be said of the other two dishes that we got – mum’s Avocado toast with eggs (68 AED), and my Salmon Benedict, which I did think was priced slightly above average at 85 AED. Very tasty, though…

What about drinks?

A latte is 25aed – reasonably priced.

Mondoux has pages and pages of other drink options – warm chocolate pots, special coffees with chocolate, smoothies, fresh juices, ice teas and lemonades – so if you’re one who likes lots of choices, you will be quite happy here.

As with all the other outlets down that end of The Beach, they are not licensed.

Is there a bathroom within the venue?

You will have to walk back out towards Masha and the Bear direction. The bathroom is to the right of Masha. It was pretty difficult in the peak of summer – we were there early July. I would highly recommend you get the little ones to do their stuff before you head over for food, haha.

Is there an indoor play corner, too?

Yes there is! It’s tucked in the corner of the cafe in an enclosed room – so yes, if you wanted to ‘close the door’, you can. Not to worry, you can still see the kids as it’s a glass partition wall, and you can also pick a table right next to it too.

I would call it a kids corner. As the photo shows – there are little kids table and chairs, toys, books, colouring material. When we were there on a Tuesday morning, there were a few other kids there.

Good for 3s and under.

Overall Thoughts

Mondoux is a lovely little addition to the neighbourhood.

We’ve only tried their breakfast and it is pretty good – we will probably return for lunch and dinner. The big pull-in is of course the play corner! Cheers to the team for bringing a fabulous cafe to our neighbourhood.

Let me know if you end up checking it out. PS – They are currently offering a 20% discount, see details in the reel below.

Have a look through this list of Restaurants with Indoor Play areas for this, and more.

Disclaimer : We were guests of Mondoux to review the venue over breakfast.
