When you start researching for somewhere to stay in the Amalfi, you could literally spend hours looking at where to base yourself, then after you’re done reading all the blogs, reviews, and recommendations, you’ll need to figure out which exact hotel you want to stay.
It’s not cheap in Italy – I’m sure you already know that 😉 So when Villa Carolina stuck out when I was browsing through Booking.com, based on location (this was our second stop in Amalfi) and budget (cost us about 120 Euros I think), we figured – alright, let’s go with it. Mind you we booked at the very last minute as well ay.
Here are our thoughts….

To get there, if you’re driving like we did, you’ll definitely need a GPS. I recommend you just get a sim card and use Googlemaps on your phone. Villa Carolina is located in Priora, a twenty minute drive from Sorrento town itself. We went from Minori all the way along the coast to Positano, then inland towards Priora. Beautiful drive, I recommend it.

One of the main reasons why we chose it, other than it being so beautiful on the photos was that there was free parking. Not many places in Sorrento itself provided this. The best bit was when the owner Carlo himself was standing at the carpark when we arrived, to welcome us. Aw 🙂
It’s on top of a hill, overlooking Sorrento, green all over. It’s a breath of fresh air really.

We stayed in the apartment no.5, which actually comes with a kitchen and two separate single beds to the side, additional to the main double bed. Very spacious.

They have a huge terrace outside where you’ll be having breakfast at, which is personally prepared by the lovely Emanuela. It’s beautiful, with homegrown tomatoes, flowers, lots of greenery. You can explore their backyard where they have their own garden and fruit trees as well.

They provide a shuttle to downtown Sorrento which we had taken. Pick-up time from town is not definite though, so do give them a call to double check. It was a huge boo-boo on their part we felt, as we wasted a lot of time just sitting at the side streets waiting for the shuttle to arrive thinking that we had missed it, not too sure what to do. Plus it was hot, hot, hot. On their website you will notice that they provide a number which states that they will provide assistance during your stay but unfortunately we couldn’t get any response from this number the entire time. Thank goodness for the landline 🙂 Anyways, just a heads up to you to double check with them before you sit by the sidewalk to wait for the shuttle 😉
That little mishap aside, G and I thoroughly enjoyed the country house. It was different, it was good to not stay in the middle of town really. Somewhere we definitely recommend you stay during your Amalfi trip, especially if you have a car! 🙂
Lovely love couple Emanuela and Carlo, thanks for having us!
