Sushi & Bubbly @ Zengo Dubai : Your Wednesday Date Night, sorted

We remember attending Zengo’s launch, back in January of 2015. To think that it has been more than 11 years since – and that we’re still in Dubai, is a little crazy, isn’t it. There were a few get-togethers since – date nights and events. Heading back late February to this pan-asian restaurant to review their Sushi & Bubbly night, after a long hiatus was definitely a little trip down memory lane for us.

Here’s our review of the Zengo’s Sushi & Bubbly offer – which runs every Wednesday.

Our experience & thoughts

First thing that came to mind as we walked out to Zengo’s terrace just before 7pm was – wow. That beautiful Dubai sunset. The way the sky turns into a gorgeous painting for a fleeting moment before it goes dark. Where shades of blue meets reddish hues of purple, and how photos can never fully capture the beauty your eyes see. And that – you get from Zengo’s terrace.

We picked a spot outside right by the glass balustrades. The weather was still perfect for alfresco dining.

The evening went by so quick – as they brought out starters, followed by the main event – the sushi platter. We requested for a few repeats and finished the evening with fruits to share.

Highlights?

  • The spicy options available :
    • chili garlic with edamame ( together with the usual salted edamame )
    • authentic thai papaya pomelo salad – this was properly spicy to keep an eye out for those chili flakes!
    • fresh wasabi used, because that for us, is so important when having sushi & sashimi
  • That all sushi was made fresh for the table – and you can tell it was so, as the rice was still soft, as though they had literally just prepped it in the kitchen
  • Quality sashimi used. We usually go for the classic salmon sashimi, and other ones can be a hit and miss especially at brunches. Zengo uses very fresh maguro (tuna) and hamachi (yellow-tail) sashimi. It’s melt-in-your-mouth quality. So good.

The outdoor terrace was packed when we were there – with a mix of couples, and adult groups. It was a nice, chilled vibe. If someone were to ask us to recommend a date night spot over sushi – Zengo would now be at the top of our list. Oh – did I mention you could opt for the drinks package as wells, for free-flow cocktails, including sparkling for two hours? 🙂

Note : The Sushi & Sashimi Platter shown in this article was prepared for our table of 4 adults on our request. This is not standard for all groups – ie if you are dining as 2 pax, you can request for just the sushi & sashimi items that you want from the menu.
