Risen, a Dubai homegrown cafe & bakery has opened up another branch – and this time it’s situated at the very new Ciel. We dragged the kids over early January to review the venue over a late lunch.
Here’s a sneak peak into Risen in Ciel Dubai Marina.
Where exactly is this branch of Risen?
Risen is located on the lobby level of Ciel. For the neighbourhood locals – you will very likely be accessing it from the Dubai Marina promenade which is the ground floor level. If you can walk – don’t be lazy. Just take the stairs up to the lobby level ( the kids will love running up ) – or otherwise, if have a pram or need to use the lift – there is one.
For those getting in through Ciel’s main lobby – you’ll find the cafe entrance on the right hand side as you enter the hotel. Lots of options, right? 🙂

What’s the venue like, indoors ?
For indoor seating – there are small circular tables with stools and a long beige couch, right in front of the cafe counter. Sit here and watch the team get to work, right in front of you. The venue adopts an earthy and neutral colour palette – with plush green and brown pillows, wooden counters and shelves, and faux foliage above. The sun passes by in the afternoon as it prepares to set – so you will get natural light streaming in on the later part of the day.

Does it have any outdoor space?
Definitely – and lots of it. There’s a combination of tables, couch seating, as well as corner tables by a bench – so take your pick. We sat outdoors with the kids when we were there – and I’ll definitely recommend you do the same for as long as the weather permits.

It’s perfect for people watching – as you’ll see them all passing by the bridge that connects Dubai Marina to JBR. Look over the edge and you’re right at the hotspot of where the boats pass by the Dubai Marina waterways. There’s always so much going on in this end of town.

What sort of food does Risen serve?
It is a cafe and bakery – so everything available, is on the countertop.
There are freshly baked croissants – plain, cheese, turkey ham & cheese and almond. These are big and fluffy ( according to my 7-year old ) – and very easily demolished by little kids. It will also likely cause an absolute mess – not just on the table but all over the surrounding floor so do keep an eye out when they’re enjoying their croissant. Of course – they do have pain au chocolat as everything tastes better with a little bit of chocolate 😉

Risen has an amazing dessert selection – and freshly baked cakes. We’re talking homemade filled donuts – jam, chocolate, salted caramel, and lemon custard. All the naughty stuff your personal trainer will shake his (or her) head at.
They do amazing gourmet artisanal sandwiches – all served with house crisps and pickles. These are proper, healthy gourmet sandwiches with homemade focaccia, chia sourdough, multigrain baguette or ciabatta. And yes, with generous amount of fillings – be it beef pastrami, house cured smoked salmon, or chicken.

What sort of drinks are available at Risen in Ciel?
Expect the usual classic hot and cold coffees and teas that you will find in cafes, with a lot of extras. Risen have taken options to the next level – with drinks that we have never seen in a cafe before. That, or we just need to explore more cafes in Dubai. We’re talking Collagen & Keto Coffees, Lotus & Peanut Lattes, and even a Russian Raf.
Feel like an extra boost? You can order protein, collagen, turmeric or moringa powder – to be added to your smoothie. It is afterall, 2026 and we’re all about eating and drinking healthy, isn’t it? My husband even ordered their Spirulina based Smoothie which is fabulous for the body, and fortunately the kids said it tastes like grass, haha. As they do. No complaints there – that just means more good stuff for us, right?
