For many years – we watched this building sit dormant in the Marina. When it started getting boarded up for construction – a lot of us in the neighbourhood got a little excited. What’s sort of restaurant will it be? We waited, and waited – and finally, at long last – District 8 opened its doors. After an initial visit with the parents back in January and a few subsequent drop ins, we returned in September to review their newly launched breakfast menu.

Introducing – The Breakfast Society, at Blume Dubai Marina.

A little introduction for those that don’t know the place…

Where is Blume?

Blume occupies the ground and first floor of District 8, located along the Marina Promenade – at what a lot of us call the ‘Spinney’s End’ of Dubai Marina. District 8, much like Pier 7 is a standalone building – and is a short stroll from King’s Marina – which a lot of you may be more familiar with.

What is the venue like?

Don’t get too intimidated by the overall look and feel of the exterior. It very much welcomes everyone – including families, and guess what – it actually opens for breakfast in the morning from 9am.

You can choose to sit indoors, or otherwise pick a spot at their outdoor terrace which overlooks the waterfront. You are literally, right by the boats. It’s beautiful.

Do they have valet at Blume – or otherwise, what’s the best way to get there?

If you are driving over – you’ll be happy to know that District 8 has its own valet booth situated in front of African + Eastern Marina Walk.

For those that live in the area – the Marina Walk Marine Transport Station is right in front. Alternatively, it’s a few minutes walk from the Marina Towers Tram Station, and slightly more from Sobha Realty Metro Station.

Let’s talk about The Breakfast Society Offer.

Available from Monday to Friday – The Breakfast Society is 59 AED per person, with one breakfast dish and one drink.

There are 8 dishes in The Breakfast Society menu – a combination of familiar breakfast favourites, and unique to Blume – dishes with Turkish, Georgian and Russian influences.

Those who prefer to start off the day with a savoury breakfast can go for their Smoked Salmon Draniki, Bazlama Benedict, Hacapuri Flatbread or otherwise, a simpler Levantine Breakfast comprising hummus, baby spinach, falafel and poaches eggs.

Do try their Syrniki and Raspberry Jam – a popular dish from the Eastern Slavic region as well as Baltic states. For us – it was very much like a mini fluffy and light cheese pancake. Delicious. Something the kids will definitely enjoy.

If you’re not so brave and would like something a little more familiar – they do have a classic French Toast served with salted caramel and fresh berries. We did give their Mushroom Sourdough a go as well – a generous offering of seasonal mushrooms, sunnyside egg, sliced avocado sprinkled with parmesan cheese.

What about drinks?

One drink is included in The Breakfast Society menu – from freshly brewed coffee and tea, and a little odd dare I say – soft drinks as well. Who drinks Ginger Ale at 9am?

Here I am being judgy yet if bubbly is on offer – I’ll be more than happy to have a glass or two with breakfast 🙂

Those who enjoy their tea would be happy to know that you have a large selection – from the usual English Breakfast, Earl Grey – to Ginger Zest, Milk Ooloong, Rooibos Orange and more.
