Banyan Tree Spa Dubai – An Afternoon of Bliss in Bluewaters

Before the family joined me at the Banyan Tree Hotel on Friday – I headed over earlier for some me-time at the Banyan Tree Spa. I mean afterall – we were gonna spend the entire weekend together so what’s a couple of hours of rest and relaxation for myself, right? 🙂

Here’s a glimpse into the beautiful Banyan Tree Spa in Bluewaters.

The Welcome Treatment

As I walked in – I was greeted with smiles from the team at the front desk. A unique setup I thought – with the welcome desk set in front of the floor to ceiling glass facade. The frangipani trees and blue skies beyond was the perfect backdrop – whereas you will typically find spa counters situated in front of – y’know – a wall. This – was an interesting choice. I extended my compliments as it was literally the first thing I noticed.

After introducing and confirming my reservations – the team ushered me to their waiting area. Tea and a cold towel was served, while I filled in the standard pre-treatment form of ‘Are you pregnant?’ and ‘Where would you like us to focus the pressure on?’. Not that this is important information to you, but no – I am not pregnant. Three kids is more than enough for us 😉

The Rainforest Experience

The team then walked me to their Rainforest Room for a little tour, and explained that I had an entire hour for myself in this space. For a fleeting moment – I panicked. What am I going to do for 60 minutes in this room? All by myself?

Don’t worry – you could easily spend an hour or more.

As I got prepared – I quietly admired the little things in the locker. Banyan Tree’s signature black and white robe, their very own canvas tote bag and as my 7-year old would describe – “the fluffiest slippers, ever.”

Jacuzzi & Hydrotherapy Pools

I retreated into the heated jacuzzi, and looked around for buttons to press. ‘Cervical jets’ – it said. Why on earth are these called – cervical jets? A bit of googling and silently chuckling to myself ( because what else can I do – I am all by myself in this massive room ) – I realised that cervical also refers to the ‘neck region’. Ah, that makes complete sense.

After sometime getting my back and neck properly massaged by the hydrojets – I went into the next pool area for more.

The Rainforest Trail

Next up – was the Rainforest Trail. As you walk through – the water falls from above at different intensities and temperature. It varies from cold, to hot, to cold – and the light and music changes to create a somewhat dreamy sensation. Close your eyes if you can, and just fall into the experience.

Steam & Sauna Rooms

Lastly – were the steam, and sauna rooms. Be a little careful in the steam room as the bench and walls are piping hot. And – don’t forget to use the scrub that they’ve placed outside. Unfortunately I completely missed this bit during the walk-through so didn’t use it when I was there. Ah, there’s always next time.

A Balinese Massage

A proper warm shower later, I got into the Banyan Tree robes to prepare for the next bit – the treatment.

As part of the Banyan Tree ritual – my therapist started off with a foot bath. She then showed me the massage oils available and I went with the Black Pepper and Lavender.

After laying face down on the massage bed (which is heated, by the way) – the experience starts off with inhaling the scents of the oil, and you feel your body relax. It’s the same thing I do to get my kids to calm down when they’re all worked up ( minus the oil ) . It’s funny you don’t practice what you preach, but when another adult tells you to inhale and exhale, you do just that.

My therapist was pretty spot-on with the pressure points and trying to unknead the knots. I have a pretty bad neck, shoulder and lower back and she could tell me which part was worst than the other, and boy did she work on it. “You should come back more often,” she said. Of course, of course 🙂

The 60-minutes Balinese Massage went by so quickly – and the experience ends with the therapist tapping two tingsha bells together, much alike the end of savasana in Yoga sessions. The massage bed reclines upwards ( because sitting up by yourself after a massage is sooooo 2024 ) – and I get myself dressed for the relaxation room.

Relaxation Room

Tea is served, with nuts as I chilled out for a little bit on the soft beds in the relaxation room. It’s an entire afternoon of bliss – and I was all ready to welcome the husband and three little munchkins for our weekend at Banyan Tree Dubai.

Few Things to Note about Banyan Tree Spa :

  • Unlike other spas – the traditional ‘spa facilities’ is Banyan Tree’s ‘Rainforest Room’. This experience is chargeable – and is typically 350 AED per person, per hour. Over the summer season it will be 250 AED per person, per hour. Note that you book out this room entirely – so it’s private, and it is also mixed-use which means that yes – you can book it with your husband.
  • There are changing rooms connected to each treatment room so you can get ready in there prior to your treatment, if you did not book the Rainforest Experience.
