Business Lunch @ Alizee, Banyan Tree Dubai

Alizee has taken over, what we all used to know as Hell’s Kitchen. New interior and exterior decor – giving its own feel, as it has now become a… in their own words ‘ elegant French Dining in a chic resort setting ‘. The person behind that description deserves a good pat on the back. I took the parents over on a Friday afternoon at the beginning of April, to review their Business Lunch menu.

Here’s what Alizee’s Business Lunch is like.

Let’s start from the very beginning.

Where is Alizee?

Alizee is situated on the pool and beach level of the new Banyan Tree Dubai. If you’re pram-free ( congratulations! ) , turn right as you walk in the lobby and take the stairs down. You will see the entrance to the restaurant right there. Otherwise – there are lifts to take you there from the lobby level.

And yes – there is complimentary valet parking.

What’s the venue like?

There’s lots of indoor seating if you prefer, with floor to ceiling glass facade so you can still enjoy the outdoor view in a proper air-conditioned room. Alternatively – if the weather is nice ( or if you have a high heat tolerance, i.e unlike my husband and I ) – pick a spot outdoors. It’s lovely to see how green it has gotten over the years, and you also get a nice view of Alizee’s pool area.

What’s in the business lunch menu and how was it?

Everytime I take my parents to a business lunch – I pre-warn them a little. It’s a ‘business lunch’ y’know. It’s not meant to be a leisurely lunch or brunch. Something quick and easy to eat, but of high quality. We did however – ended up staying around at Alizee for more than 2 hours, add on another half an hour after that for walking around the property. Highlights for us was definitely the desserts. But let’s start from the beginning…….

Starters

Interestingly enough, the starters were all salads – 3 of which were vegan. I’ll be honest – I was a little worried as my dad is a big meat-eater. I then scanned down the menu to the main courses and thought okay – that’s fine. We can start light. It is – a set menu after all. Let’s pace ourselves.

The salads came – lentils, one with red beetroot confit, and the other – a mix of kale and orange with avocado at the bottom amongst other greens. All freshly tossed and put together with the right dressings. On hindsight I would definitely try the one with anchovies next time, for something different.

Main Courses

From the main courses – we shared three dishes. I’ll warn ya – it may seem simple in presentation and not that big in size – but it was a lot of protein ( which is fab ) – and so very filling.

We had the baby chicken in lemon and harissa, mediterranean seabass with mixed grilled vegetables and pan-seared salmon with asparagus ( Note : Menu mentions ratatouille – so do ask them for that if you go ). In proper asian-style, we tried each others dishes – while sipping mocktails and chit chat, and it was just perfect.

Desserts

Now – the desserts, you can NOT skip. There are five choices and we tried three, and I would very happily go back just to try the other two. These are desserts that I feel – takes a lot of skill to prepare. The sorta dessert you would order at a fine dining restaurant at top price – and then you take a hundred photos to admire it, and then share it between the two of you while having a glass of aperitif. You get what I’m saying, right? 🙂

The Tarte Fine aux Pommes aka thinly sliced apples on caramelized puff pastry, topped with vanilla ice cream was absolutely divine. We also had the Vacherin a la Mangue & Fruit de la Passion – which in plain english terms is a pavlova with mango and passion fruit compote. Having had our fair share of pavlova in New Zealand ( the home of pavlovas… ), I’ll give them a thumbs up.

The Fraise a la Creme was a unique creation of ‘strawberries and cream’. I loved how they’ve somewhat hidden the sliced strawberries and cream underneath – and it was a perfect ending, with the strawberry sorbet.

How much is the Alizee Business Lunch?

There are two pricing – 150 AED for 2-courses, of which you can choose between starters, mains and desserts. Whatever choice you make – make sure desserts is in there, ha ha. Then there’s 180 AED for 3-courses.

It’s a beautiful location, and easy to get to as there is, fortunately minimal traffic to Bluewaters. Sit outdoors for as long as the weather is pleasant, otherwise indoors is not too bad either. Pop over one day before school pick-up, or if you’re looking to do a business meeting with someone in Bluewaters. I’ll warn you though. You’ll likely spend more time there than you had planned 🙂

Dubai resident. Stays most of the time in the marina as she can't be bothered going anywhere else after work and in the weekends. Originally from the land of the orang utans, spent the latter half of her life in the land down under. Always on the look out for deals, loves organising get-togethers, and occasionally steals some time for a sip of wine or four at ladies nights.
