Lazy Sunday Family Brunch @ Beach Bar & Grill Dubai

Picture this. You’re sitting on the decks by the beach here in Dubai. It’s winter-time. The kids are playing on the soft white sand within sight. There’s a live duo band – she’s singing ‘Make Me Feel My Love’ – made famous all over again by Adele. You’re sipping prosecco, having these amazing empanadas while chatting with your husband, your brother and your sister-in-law. The palm trees are swaying overhead. It’s cool. It’s comfortable. And this – was exactly what the Lazy Sunday Family Brunch at Beach Bar & Grill was like.

And guess what? You can do this too.

Let’s start from the very beginning.

Where and when is this family brunch happening?

Every Sunday, at The Beach Bar & Grill.

The restaurant is located at The Palace in the One&Only Royal Mirage – with a large manicured lawn to the front, and the beach, to the other side.

Is there outdoor seating?

Of course there is. And you better book early if you want a spot there in the winter time.

They also had these comfy couch seatings to the side – which I thought would be perfect for sundowners.

What’s the spread like?

You must have figured it out from the name – ‘Lazy Sunday Brunch’ – means you don’t ( or at least, you shouldn’t ) move at all, for the entire afternoon. Of course – if you came with kids, that’s absolutely impossible – but hey, at least all food and drinks is served to table 🙂

To back track a little – Beach Bar & Grill does South American cuisine, with an Argentinian touch – from acclaimed Chef Mauro Colagreco. You’ll find Starters like Coxinha ( Chicken Croquettes ), Truffle and Braised Beef Empanadas, and of course – Sea Bream Ceviche.

The kids loved the nachos and home-made guacamole (as do we), and we all fought over the Shrimp Tacos, haha.

What’s a brunch without Dibba Bay Oysters, and Smoked Burrata Salad? 🙂 It goes well with the heavier counterparts. Pace yourself as you’re only at the beginning of the brunch.

Next up – mains.

I remember asking the staff if they have a kids menu and they told me that they didn’t, with a big ‘but’ – and emphasizing that – there is a LOT of food in this brunch. He was right!

Mains came off the grill – with roasted baby chicken, chorizo, flap steak and picanha served with chimichurri sauce, and prawns. It was a lot of meat. Don’t worry – there’s sides as well. Corn, grilled Provoletta (an Argentinian variant of provolone cheese), homemade fries, and Fugazza (an Argentinian pizza). Yes, I had to Google this again.

It was a feast 🙂

Is there dessert?

Their ‘Dos Capas De Pina’ was a spectacle – Creme Brulee and Pineapple Sorbet served in a Pineapple. The kids went nuts on this one. There’s Dulce de Leche Tiramisu, Tres Leches which is a Sponge Cake soaked in three kinds of milk. If you’re curious to know what exactly – it’s evaporated milk, condensed milk and whole milk. Sounds amazing, right? Sugar, sugar and more sugar. Perfect, for brunch, haha!

Another kids favourite were the Picarones – a Peruvian sweet potato and pumpkin doughnuts drenched in fig syrup. It it was interesting trying all these different type of Latin American desserts.

The best bit? You just sit there. And the food keeps coming 🙂

Is there any Kids Entertainment?

While we were sitting on the decks by the beach, the kids went onto the sand to play. We joined them for a bit. I recommend you bring some beach toys and a ball to kick around, to keep them busy.

They do have an Entertainer at the other side of the restaurant by the lawn – with games, and face painting. Take note that if you sat at the outdoor terrace by the beach you won’t be able to see the kids – so you’ll have to go with the younger ones.

Overall Thoughts

We dined, mid November when the temperature was absolutely perfect. It was such a nice afternoon, and we especially enjoyed the live duo band which was at just the right volume and tempo to set the mood. I think we stayed on until sunset, as the kids were quite happy running around on the lawn.

I felt like that the Lazy Sunday Brunch is one of those brunches you would definitely bring visiting family to. It’s one where you don’t really want ‘too much going on’. You just want to catch up, have some good food, while the kids play. Give it a try one Sunday 🙂

Note : Kids under 10 dine complimentary, and Kids 10-16 Years Old are charged 175 AED. There are not many Family Brunches that would have a separate price for kids at that age bracket so if you have older kids – we highly recommend you consider the Lazy Sunday Brunch 🙂
