How does steak, a few drinks, and live music sound like to you, on a Saturday night here in Dubai? Something a little chilled – where you can still have a decent conversation with your other half, and enjoy good music. That’s Saturday Steak Night with Sean Lipsey at Jones for you.

What’s on the menu and how does it work?
It’s basically – a quality barbeque steak night.
You go up to the station – and let them team know what meat you would like. It’s 400g of meat, and don’t worry you can mix and match. They have a decent selection of Australian meat – lamb rack, 120 days grass fed tenderloin with salt n pepper, or sirloin with melbourne cafe rub. There’s also Jack’s creek black angus cube, with classic steak rub. Did I mention they have pork chops with fiery chilly as well?
Your dinner, served to table
Head back to your table, and chill. Food is all served to table. Starters – mixed leaf avocado salad, or goats cheese salad. Gotta warn ya – don’t eat too much of their sundried tomato focaccia as the good stuff is yet to come.
Your meat is served with two choices of sides – and as you would expect from Jones the Grocer, food is very well prepared and seasoned. Cooked, to your liking. I had requested for a mix of lamb chops and grass fed sirloin – medium, and thoroughly pleased with it.
With the package – you get 5 choices of drinks, to include beer bottles, house wine, spirits and non-alcoholic. Again, this is all served to you. Have I reiterated enough that this is all about a relaxed evening out? 🙂
What’s the overall vibe and music like?
You know how you go to a bar, and there’s live music playing – but sometimes they’re tucked in to the side of the restaurant and they kind of become, background music? I’m not a fan of that. I love it when the spotlight is on them. And that’s what it’s all about at Jones.
There’s a little stage set up right in front on Jones’ terrace. Sean Lipsey on vocals, Vladimir on the guitar and Godswill on drums. I got there about 20 minutes past eight to meet a friend, and they were already on stage (starting on the dot, hey? :)). Have seen Sean at Pizza Live Express in JLT – vocals and keyboard (and loved it). This would be the first time to see him with a band. Music choice was I would say – jazz and blues, with the likes of Elvis’ Can’t Help Falling in Love with You, to Amy Winehouse’ Valerie, to Sway – by Dean Martin, or Michael Buble, whichever generation you are from. My kind of music.
The tempo throughout was a little bit more upbeat to my liking (I’m an old-school – guitar and vocals type of person) – but it was still good music. Particularly loved it when they did Eric Clapton’s Wonderful Tonight at the end – what a perfect finish to the evening (Have a look at the second slide for a recording of their performance)
Another highlight would be the guitarist. This man does some mean improv solos. A music enthusiast would definitely enjoy this.
Come to Jones’ this Saturday
We stayed on until they finished their set – which was almost around 11pm. I was surprised they went on for so long – with breaks in between, of course. It was a really nice evening out. A chilled one for sure – a nice intimate date night of music and steak.
