Live music is back. Aren’t we all glad about that? 🙂 Don’t know about you but we definitely are. Happy for those who perform, and happy for us as well.
Off we went last Monday to Bluewaters for a review of Cove Beach’s Unplugged session. It’s not often we book the nanny for an evening out, and I’m glad we did for this. What a great night it turned out to be.
For those who don’t know where Cove Beach is….
It’s a beach club by day, and outdoor bar by night. There is also the restaurant itself known as Two.0.
It is one of those places you have seen pop up on social media and thought to yourself – I don’t think I fit in there anymore, after all these kids, haha. Note that the venue does accept families, however certain events such as this are adults only, and rightly so. I don’t know about you but I am definitely not taking my toddler with me at 8pm at night while I enjoy a glass (or five), listening to live music. Don’t worry, they do try and remind you as well, every 3 steps you take with signs along the pathway. Just in case your 5-year old decided that evening she wanted to tag along to the Unplugged session, y’know 😉
Tip : Remember to tell your Careem Driver to take you to Cove Beach’s entrance, not Caesar’s.
It’s a 30 second walk from door and door but if you or your husband / friend / wife has low heat tolerance and patience, that might not be the best start to the much-awaited date night out.
What is on offer that evening?
For 199 AED, you get unlimited drinks (hooray) and 2 selected bites from 8-11pm. And of course, you get to sit outside and enjoy live music by selected talented artists.
Happy to be there when Khalil was playing last Monday, having seen him play in other venues over the years (Oeno, PikNik at the Westin..). It was Gari Deegan and himself, singing to all-time favourites…. and when we were there, we got Old Town Road, Gnarls’ Barkley’s Crazy, and of course 4 Non Blonde’s What’s Up…amongst many many other songs.

How was the vibe?
Even at 40 degrees and high humidity – it was actually really nice to sit outside, with Dubai Eye peeking in the foreground. It did help that we requested for the portable fan be placed right in front of us. Like… literally. Blasting 😉
Crowd-wise, it was fairly quiet when we were there, as it was the beginning of the Eid holidays and the middle of summer. There were couples, and small groups of friends. Really nice chilled-out vibe. I can imagine though, that the venue is absolutely packed during the winter months.
And the food?
As we were there over Eid, we were given the Eid Sharing Platter which was plentiful. 199 AED to be shared amongst 4, it was a generous serving of sushi, tacos, sliders, sweet potato chips and more. So good.
Overall thoughts?
For those who love their music over a chilled setting, this is one I would highly recommend for date nights, or an evening out with good friends. The great thing about Bluewaters is that it is close to the marina but you don’t get stuck in the horrendous marina traffic getting there, which means maximising your ‘time away from the kids’.
Unplugged sessions also means you can still talk to each other and enjoy the music at the same time. And hey – if you want to join in, and have a go on the mic – go ahead and ask 😉 Save this for the winter months when Cove Beach Unplugged resumes.
