Mother’s Day ‘Bespoke Afternoon Tea’ @ Jumeirah Zabeel Saray

The sky was grey from the sandstorm but that didn’t stop us from getting a little dressed up and heading back down the West Crescent to Zabeel Saray. Car valeted, we walked straight in heading towards Sultan’s Lounge. I found one of the staff, informing him that we were here for the ‘Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea’. Instead of taking us to the terrace, we were led down the halls to another room – “This is where the afternoon tea will be served.” Special.

Keeping this short and sweet (simply because I didn’t sleep very well last night) – the Afternoon Tea was definitely an interesting and different experience compared to the many others I have done in Dubai. Bespoke, that’s the word to describe it. The chef himself comes out to prepare 3 courses on a cart – the first – foie gras (Note : If you don’t like or eat foie gras, do let them know so you don’t end up wasting it. Sorry guys!), the second was the wagyu beef served with thinly shaved truffle. This was really good. The third was smoked salmon on toasted bread. Don’t try to be posh and use a fork and knife to eat this, just use your hands and pick up the bread.

Next came the standard – scones with all the jams you could think of (8 of them, actually) on a nice Sultan’s Lounge afternoon tea stand. My favourite? Their home-made date jam.

We finished off the afternoon with desserts – this is where they wheel an entire cart of cakes and pretty little tarts and you can choose what you like from there. Glad to see baked cheesecake amongst the selection, and the team was nice enough to let us take away a slice home in an exquisite Jumeirah Zabeel Saray box.

We both left, a pink rose in hand. A really nice Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea, courtesy of the Jumeirah Zabeel Saray. Thanks for a really nice afternoon out 😉 They are doing this again on Sunday the 21st of March – so definitely give them a call if you would like a different afternoon tea experience.

Disclaimer : Jumeirah Zabeel Saray was gifting the first 10 mums to make a booking with them for Mother’s Day and we were one of the first to make a booking, therefore the afternoon tea was complimentary.
