Since July last year, we’ve been to Gourmet by Kcal numerous times. Citispi organises a breakfast morning for mums with babies, or those who are expecting ( Thanks for that 😉 ) With every breakfast order, you get a complimentary tea/coffee. Then towards the end of the year, Entertainer decided to throw in a 241 – which you can use on any other occasion.
Gourmet by Kcal takes pride in offering ..quote from their website ,” fresh, natural and organic.” Over the many weeks that I’ve been to the mummy mornings, I’ve tried quite a few things from their breakfast menu, then ended up resorting to the same thing again and again : Poached Eggs with Avocado and Kale (AED 56). Whilst the homemade waffles (AED 46) was very pretty for photos and would probably get more likes on instagram than eggs (it’s the berries… everyone loves berries!), it tasted too…..healthy for me. If I were to be blunt, it tasted like I was eating crumbly cardboard (Sorry guys). Gluten-free oat waffles just didn’t work for me – I like it the normal way, though I know it probably wouldn’t be very good for my waistline! 🙂
If you don’t like kale, there’s the Poached Eggs with Smoked Salmon (AED 56) as well with wilted spinach. Healthy – as they use free-range eggs and seed bread…and to make you feel better, they actually note down how much fat, carbs and protein to each dish!
This morning I gave their omelette a try (AED 58) – you get to choose just three ingredients, and it comes with mixed greens and toasted seed bread. You can’t go wrong with a classic omelette… spinach, cheddar cheese and mushroom 🙂 Plus I loved their seed bread as well.. comes hot from the toaster, and you actually don’t feel so bad having these carbs!
They also offer sweet potato pancakes, the classic Gourmet Breakfast (AED76) and various muesli options priced at AED38.
Pricing-wise – Gourmet by Kcal’s breakfast is quite expensive. I guess we need to take into account that all their ingredients are fresh, local, and organic. It is a nice cafe to hang out in, especially at the terrace at this time of the year overlooking the lawns of Le Meridien Mina Seyahi. You also get free valet – super convenient. The many couches makes it very baby-friendly as well. If you want all that – be happy to pay for a little more for breakfast – add on around 22 AED for a cup of coffee.
Or, you could head to one of the many standalone outlets like Arrows and Sparrows in The Greens ..which is much more wallet-friendly – try the Miss Benedict 😉 Click here for AtoZaatar’s review of our breakfast date! Follow me on instagram as well for the many other breakfast outlets that we have been and will go to.. (that I always get lazy to blog about 😉 )
