Above @ Sofitel Downtown Dubai

Date night on a school night’s are always the best.

Eventhough I got completely lost navigating from project office to Sofitel Downtown after work today, it was quite well worth the drive (and frustation) 😉

Mochi – personally we thought this was quite bad (details in blog)

Sitting eight floors up and spanning a vast 11,800 square feet, Above’s chic interiors and beautiful panoramic vistas of Downtown Dubai make it the perfect setting to wind down after a long day. At the multi-dimensional lounge, guests can enjoy world-class beverages, a menu of gastronomic specialities and private cabanas, suitable for any day of the week.

We found ourselves on one of their white sofas, the magnificent Burj Khalifa towering above. Gnarls’ Barkley’s Crazy softly playing in the background reminds me of final year uni. Music’s good. Mocktails at 35AED is not so bad, I do recommend the Berry Iced Tea and Moulin Rouge.

Food is to be honest, quite average. More so ‘bar food’ than you would expect from a swanky lounge like Above. You get the likes of mini burgers, tuna tataki, fat fried potatoes and chicken wings. Possibly something to be worked on, however I still see that it will be a popular spot for those who work and live in Downtown Dubai/Business Bay for its laid-back feel, and views.

For desserts, our hearts leaped when we saw Mochi ice cream 🙂 Unfortunately of the three, the mochi layer of two was too dry and crusty. It was really bad, to be honest. Do suggest that staff try one out before it’s served to guests in the future, it felt like it was taken out of a frozen pack that was already expired.

Look, I see it that it’s a new lounge – and people are here to drink, catch up with friends and to chill out. Would be a perfect spot for fire works, as it has got glorious views of the Burj Khalifa. Food may just need a bit of work and it will definitely be a new hot spot, especially with the fine weather ahead 🙂

I hear they do brunch on Friday’s by the poolside as well. Definitely on my to-do list, maybe once it gets back on Cobone again? Hee hee.
