6 girls. 24 drinks. A fat juicy steak each. Bill came to be about 170AED per person, which includes a random selection of delicious sides to share. Hmm, not too bad ay, for a school night 🙂
So I’ve seen this Ruth’s Chris Steak House on my facebook wall for ages now. It’s not too far from home, but for some reason we just have never thought of checking it out. I was planning a get-together for work and was thinking, hmm, where should we go to that has food, and drinks, that won’t cost us a bomb?
Ruth’s, maybe? 🙂
Here are my thoughts on every bit of the process, from email to phone calls, to a pre-visit, and then the actual night itself.
Reservations
I emailed 5 days before the night, and Mariana got back to me very quick. Next day, I got a phone call to confirm. For the next two days, I was one of those nightmare patrons who kept changing her mind on the number of guests, hehe (sincere apologies, Mariana!). I must have went from 6 to 5, to 9, and then back to 7, lol. I dropped by on Tuesday to check the place out, Mariana was nice to show me around and where we would possibly be. I loved that they had a private room as well with round tables, definitely something I want to book for in the future.
Pre-dinner drinks (Blends)
R and I got to The Address early and decided to pop to Blends for a pre-dinner drink. They do ladies nights as well on Wednesdays – 2 drinks (Aw, how lucky are we girls in Dubai?). The bar was pleasantly empty, with no loud music blaring, yay. The bartender made us a refreshing mojito, proper style – with lime, and mint leaves. Super 🙂
Entrance
Round about 7:40pm, we headed down to Ruth’s. Pretty impressed that they have so many people greeting you at the entrance, considering that the place isn’t all that big. It wasn’t like in some hotels where it’s a little weird and overwhelming, this was actually…nice 🙂 Place was packed, and buzzing. 80% full I’ll say! Great atmosphere ay.
Service
Jayson was our host for the evening. Very professional, we could all hear him whilst he was introducing the specials amidst all the noise. Considering how busy Ruth’s was last night, I didn’t notice any setbacks with service ay. Not sure if I was just too pre-occupied with the girls, compared to when it’s just me and G and both of us are in our usual critical mode.
Overall/Food/Price
The 6 of us had a great time at Ruth’s – the steaks were great, though to be honest at half price it was still relatively costly (to the same in Auckland). A 12 ounce Ribeye by itself would be 239AED at cost price, which is approx 40NZD. At half price, that’s 20 NZD. Add on potatoes, and few pick of greens to share, averaged around 35AED per plate. At 170AED (60NZD) for what we got – the service, the ambience and the company – it was not too bad 🙂
One minor reservation……… – when the steaks first came out…….. the presentation was well, let’s just say there is no presentation. It’s a piece of meat on a small plate. That’s how some steak places do it in Dubai ay. I guess here at Ruth’s, it’s all about the meat, whereas in some places ….food is art, where presentation plays a big part. However, It was a good piece of meat though 🙂
Guess we’ve been so used to the many buffet/brunch 2 for 1 deals around that we tend to compare to those so my thoughts are fairly biased when it comes to ‘good deals’ 🙂
So, would I recommend it to others?
Yea, definitely. It’s something different to the usual drink up girl’s night. It’s not cheap, but it’s got fab atmosphere, where you can have good food over good wine. Malbec’s on the choice for reds and their Pinot Grigio was splendid as well. If you plan it well, you could sneak in two extra drinks in Blends prior to dinner, hee hee 🙂
Yet another awesome ladies night-out find in the marina 🙂
