Iftar @ La Postreria, The Beach JBR

So I decided to take mum to The Beach…. since she’s never been there before after it has opened 🙂 It was a gruelling 38 degrees, as we parked our car in front of Al Fattan towers and wandered pass the Hilton onto The Beach. Started to sweat already and mum’s mood was going from ok to grumpy. Uh oh, not good 🙂

We went to the souvenir shop, “I love Dubai” as she bought a few random things there and loitered around to enjoy a bit more air condition. Round about 7pm, we decided it was time to find somewhere to eat.

I had gone through the Entertainer book the other night and found just 2 places that were in The Beach 🙂 One was Tike, the other is La Postreria. The latter sounded a lil more interesting so we asked around and made ourselves there.

The friendly lady at the door advised that it was buffet only tonight, so I asked if I could do ala carte as I had the entertainer voucher. She excused herself and went to the manager, who came back and said that they were doing an iftar spread tonight, but we could use the voucher for 2 for 1. And guess what, it’s 120AED for iftar. Haha, why not 🙂 Happy days.

Spent the next 2 and a half hours on the very comfy white couches, feasting away to a delicious arabic spread. The entrees were all served to table, my mum and I absolutely loved the lentil soup. The salad was good as well – refreshing greens with pomegranate tossed in between. There was the usual hummus and moutabel.

We were pretty full by the time we were through with the entrees! And aha, the highlight were the king prawns which was 1 of the 4 buffet choices in the centre table. Last time I bought something similar from Market Platters across the road to cook my laksa, it cost a fortune. These were much bigger and o so sweet. So good. I think the prawns were already worth the 60AED we paid for the spread! Mind you, don’t expect a huge selection like those in the grand hotels in Dubai. You’ll get what you see in my photos, plus 4 choices for the mains. Prawns, Vege/mashed potatoes, rice/beef (I don’t know the arabic name..), rice/chicken (again, I don’t know the arabic name, please forgive me!).

They have an assortment of arabic desserts as well, but ah, I could only fit in some fruits. Stuffed 🙂

So here you go – if you’re keen for a fairly nice place in the heart of JBR – tear out that Entertainer voucher in your Dubai book and head over for a simple iftar feast for only 60AED per person 🙂 Cheers to Josanne, and Roberlito for taking care of us (and taking photos for us!), and to the manager (sorry I didn’t get your name), for being flexible in letting us use the Entertainer 🙂

Talk about an awesome bargain in a great spot. It’s worth exploring your neighbourhood sometimes, isn’t it!
