Been looking forward to write on this lil find in the marina 🙂
Last Saturday when K was here, we went out for a cycle around the marina and ended up at Pier 7. I had originally planned to take her to Ocacti for ladies night, supposedly sunset cocktails from 6-9pm. We wandered through the Marina Mall and made our way there. When asked about this deal, the guy told us that was wrong advertisement, aww. Bugger!
So we went downstairs, and got out of the lift. To the left was a half open door into what seemed like a really beautiful cafe. We were curious 🙂 We poked our heads in, and asked the lady, what is this place? She told us it’s Fume’ cafe and it was not really opened yet. Asked if we wanted to come in have a look. Aha, of course! 🙂
I loved how they had left the structure as it is. Bare, sexy concrete. You could see the massive corbels supporting the cantilever beams. No ceiling, all the HVAC ducts above bare to all, painted in black. Nice.
Furniture in the restaurant area was all wooden. Pails hung off the walls. Vintage coke chest. Even the flower deco’s on the tables were hand made by their staff, used fizzy cans cut into flowers. So unique.
We were shown the bar, hidden to the back, still prepping for opening. Apparently the floor is made of wooden barrels. Loved the vintage signs on the walls. Definitely somewhere I’ll come back again for a drink 🙂 It’s fairly small, so it would be good if they did not allow in-door smoking here. Maybe? Please? 😀
After all the wandering around and chit chat, we thought we’ll give their desserts a try. These were Abraham’s recommendations 🙂
date and banana pudding, custard & vanilla ice cream
apple & rhubard crumble, custard & vanilla ice cream
Both were equally good, definitely have it with some tea otherwise you’ll just go into a sugar high 🙂 I looked through their menu, the prices for their mains were reasonable. Very interesting mix like beek cheek rendang & paratha for 52AED ? I’m coming back for that!
Any chance of introducing vouchers in the Entertainer or some sort of ‘neighbourhood loyalty card’?
So excited to take G back. Loved that it was on the marina and within our ‘cycling-zones’ so no need to battle the infamous traffic here 🙂 It would definitely be good if they installed more bicycle racks though. Who do I talk to for that?
Abraham, sincere thanks for taking care of K & I. It was definitely one of the highlights of her trip here. One of those random unplanned evenings where you go wandering around your neighbourhood and find something great through a half opened door 😉
- Fume Neighbourhood Eatery
- Fume’s Facebook Page
- 1st Floor, Pier 7 tower,
- Dubai Marina Walk
- Strictly no reservations
- Limited tables for parties up to 12 guests
This looks fantastic; thanks for sharing! Will have to give it a try as it’s right on my doorstep too 🙂
Aw, nice 🙂 Let me know how it goes!
Did you go back there? James and I visited a couple of weeks ago. Where to start? I’d read some pretty terrible reviews on trip advisor but went with an open mind. They have a Wagamama’s concept of whatever’s ready will come to the table. This is supposed to encourage sharing???!?!!! Had comedy or errors with wrong drinks, wrong starter, cancelled starter, original starter coming back. Mains were nice enough, chef clearly likes pepper! Puddings were the best bit! Apple pie was gorgeous and the date pudding was really good. Shame about the service and the problems with our order. Nice enough but won’t be running back in a hurry! Oh the plus side Cindy, the smoking is restricted to the bar which is enclosed so you can at least sit in a smoke free restaurant.
Hey Serena!
Been wanting to go back but haven’t gotten around to. O no, sounds like they’re struggling with service – that’s not good at all! They do look busy though whenever I cycle pass, hmm – definitely need to pick up with getting orders right/service if they want to keep it going well !
I think they’ve fixed any service issues which might have been. When we were there last week, the service was flawless:)
