Few weeks ago, the husband and I drove down to Buddha Bar for a dinner date. It had very recently reopened. I contemplated putting on a cheongsam – in line with the whole pan-asian theme – but after much thought, decided against it. Imagine – if the staff was dressed in one. Last thing I would want is someone asking me to get them drinks. A nice blue dress would do 🙂
So – how did it go?
A Few Words
We have been to our fair share of a ” Dinner with a Show ” and I’ll be honest – it’s been awhile.
How do I even begin to describe our experience at Buddha Bar?
One word – Wow.
The costumes, the make-up, the dance, the theatrics. The music, the lighting – just every little aspect of it was mind-blowingly stunning.
You could tell that each scene had been so carefully choreographed. You have performers in beautiful white gowns that mimic origami, wearing ornate floral headpieces. Then in another, the dancers are in extravagant gold sequined dresses, and dramatic, textured red curls. You think this is as bizarre as it gets and in another scene, performers turn up with gorgeous purple evening gowns (normal, yes) and their entire heads – completely wrapped up in a purple shawl.
Like – what is, going on here? I don’t know, but I like it.
The lighting changes to suit each scene – always with a misty, hazy ambience to create a dream-like atmosphere. Buddha Bar’s dining lounge is perfect for this – with the red crystal chandeliers hanging high above, and the towering, golden Buddha statue taking the main stage.
We shared a few dishes throughout evening – from Philadelphia Mango Maki rolls and Scottish Salmon sashimi, to Black Cod Miso and Prime Beef Tenderloin for mains. You could even get Coconut Rice in Banana Leaves if you don’t feel like good ol’fashioned Jasmine Rice.
Sakura Secret at Buddha Bar is not just ‘dinner with a show’. It’s a glamourous and dazzling, dream-like theatrical dining experience. A Dubai Bucket List, for sure.
Note : Whilst Buddha Bar does not have minimum spend (which is fabulous, don’t you think) – a dinner of say, a starter, main course and dessert is around 500 AED per person.
