Dubai Basketball joins Euroleague and ABA, kicking off games in Coca-Cola Arena

Have you ever been to a professional basketball game? Do your kids play? Maybe you, your husband, or the both of you? Well – I have absolutely no hand-ball coordination and sadly was terrible in sports – despite being blessed with height. However – I grew up with two brothers and a dad who loved watching the NBA. They all played, and knew the game well. And I remember sitting in our living room in the weekends, watching the likes of Michael Jordan and Shaq O’Neill shoot hoops. The crowd cheering, the music in the background, the half-time dancers. It was exciting. Now – imagine if you could take the kids to a game here in Dubai – to watch all that. Not the same players of course, but just as good, and inspiring.

Introducing, Dubai Basketball – who is playing in both the Euroleague and Adriatic Basketball Association (ABA) in Coca-Cola Arena this season.

The atmosphere

We went to the Euroleague kick-off, where Dubai Basketball played the Partizans. It was so exciting watching the game itself – the intensity on the court, the reactions of the players on the bench supporting their team-mates, the coach watching on the side, and the interaction between the referee and the players. The best bit for us was the audience itself. There were these two guys sat courtside by the home bench who was absolutely engrossed and hilarious althroughout. We were surprised they still had a voice at the end of the two hours, after all that shouting.

Families – welcomed

There were families as well – with young kids to teenagers. There was a lot of cheering ( and friendly jeering ) – all for the fun of the game. At quarter and half-time, they had kids coming out to dance as well as a host of competitions where people could come down to the court to take part in.

Dubai resident. Stays most of the time in the marina as she can't be bothered going anywhere else after work and in the weekends. Originally from the land of the orang utans, spent the latter half of her life in the land down under. Always on the look out for deals, loves organising get-togethers, and occasionally steals some time for a sip of wine or four at ladies nights.
