Experience Dejeuner Au Rose: A Perfect Summer Lunch at Alizee

I sneaked out at the beginning of the school holidays to review a new lunch offer at Alizee with a friend. Dejeuner Au Rose – they’ve called it. According to Google ( sorry, I don’t speak french ) – it means A Rose Lunch. Sounds much better in french doesn’t it? 🙂 If you need a break this summer holidays from home, please give this one a go.

Here’s how our Summer Rose Lunch at Alizee went.

An Introduction

We walked into Alizee, and after a quick confirmation of the reservations – picked a table indoors right by the floor to ceiling glass wall. The sunlight was streaming through the window, bathing the dining table in a warm glow. Perfect for that ‘late afternoon lunch’ feel and of course – perfect for photos.

It was not busy in Alizee on a Monday afternoon. Afterall, it’s past that lunch hour and just before dinner-time. If you’re looking for a quiet part of the day to catch up with a friend, I recommend you do just the same.

The Dejeuner Au Rose Menu

For the Dejeuner Au Rose lunch – you have two choices. 3 plates and a glass of rose, or 6 plates and two glasses of rose.

The Rose

The team served us Ken Forrester’s Petit Rose 2024 during our lunch in June. We were both going on about what a good rose it was – light, smooth, and so easy to drink. I’ve already gone online to check where to get it so we could have some at home.

Note that the exact Rose type may change when you are there – as it just depends on the sommelier’s recommendation based on what you are ordering, and what is available.

Vegetarian Options

It had completely slipped my mind that my dining companion is vegetarian – until she went through the menu and remarked that there were a lot of options for her. Thank goodness. That’s five out of ten options, and to highlight that there are two vegan options too.

As we had gone for the 6 plates options – the team very kindly offered to prepare the 6th dish especially for her. That’s Dubai for you isn’t it – always flexible, always accomodating.

Our favourites? Definitely the Poivrons Marines – the red and yellow peppers, cooked with parsley, olives and caper berries. That’s pesto, isn’t it? Light, and delcious.

I’m usually not a fan of leeks, or at least we don’t know how to cook properly – but Alizee does it well. Steamed, with tangy vinaigrette, butter fried croutons and and salad greens on top.

The other three dishes I have had prior – as it’s available in their Business Lunch Offering. Kale and avocado salad, Lentils salad and Red beetroot confit.

Non-Vegetarian Options

As for the other options – you get yellowfin tuna, seabass and salmon tartare served on a clam shell, and place atop a bed of ice.

The Angus Beef carpaccio came separately, thinly sliced and served with black truffle, rocket and shallots. The beef was delicate, and melt-in-your-mouth tender. The rich, savoury flavour was well balanced with the fresh and lightness of the rocket and shallots.

If I were having this and only this – it would have been too heavy so thank goodness for the many salads and Alizee’s freshly baked bread to go with it. And of course – the best Rose we have yet, to date.

How much is the Dejeuner Au Rose Lunch?

For 3 plates and 1 glass of rose, the Dejeuner Au Rose Lunch is priced at 175 AED. Go for 6 plates and 2 glasses of rose, which will cost 325 AED.

We stayed on from 3:30pm until 5:30pm, and it was such a lovely little break from home. One big point to highlight about Banyan Tree is that it’s so easy to get in and out – so even if you don’t live down this end of town – it’s still a quick trip there. My friend, who lives in Arabian Ranches 2 took 18 minutes to get from home to Banyan Tree on a Monday afternoon, leaving home at 3pm. That’s record timing isn’t it. Arabian Ranches 2 is for me, a road trip from home. So if you live anywhere around there – and you feel that Bluewaters is far. It is not. It’s much closer than you think 🙂

Now…..let me order a few bottles of that Rose…..
