It’s been awhile since we have been to a brunch where my husband had just as much fun (if not more), than the kids. He was just telling me the other day we should go back again. That – speak volumes of the Saturday Brunch at Toad in the Hole. It’s just one of those fun brunches you could go with friends without kids and they would have a fabulous time as well. In a nutshell? Golf, games, and kids’ club – all included.
Think your husband will like this one too? Read on.
Let’s start from the beginning.
Where exactly is Toad in the Hole?
Did you know that Topgolf has a british gastropub? Well – that gastropub, is called Toad in the Hole. It’s located on the third floor of Topgolf – and you access it from the main entrance, via the stairs, or the lifts.
As with all golf clubs – you self-park. So don’t be lazy bum. Don’t worry – there is lots of shaded parking right in front of the entrance so it’s a short stroll for you and the kids to get in.

What’s the venue like?
As you enter the gastropub, you first limbo your way under a rope held by the staff on two ends, and then you’re given your welcome drinks. Such a fabulous way to start a brunch. The venue was already buzzing when we got there at 1:20pm (Note that the brunch starts at 1pm).
As with most gastropubs – there are high tables all throughout and booths which of course – we jumped on. The bar area is its centrepiece, taking up a large area of the space, and I can just imagine this place being packed in the evenings.

How does the brunch work? What entertainment is included?
Topgolf gameplay
Around 1:30pm, we were ushered by the team to the Topgolf driving range area which is literally just outside – on the same level. Each table had its own hitting bay.

The first 10 minutes was absolute chaos for us as the kids got over-excited with the space, the golf clubs, and the balls. I was literally sweating left right and centre thinking one of my babies was going to fall off. The team immediately noticed what was going on and came into my rescue as they showed the kids and I how to play and how everything worked. I was a little calmer when the husband came back and it was just fun – after that, as we all got a turn hitting the golfballs and watching the points go up on the scoreboard.
Note : I personally think this area is better for the older kids, and not so much for toddlers unless you are absolutely certain the little one is not going to jump into the net in front of the hitting bay. Like – absolutely certain.
Starters, served to the bays
Starters are served to the tables at the hitting bay. Easy to eat food – like scotch eggs, prawns, cauliflower popcorn. And then of course they had to give us a salad that required the use of a plate and cutlery – unless you’re a messy monster and picks pieces of avocado and lettuce up with your fingers, haha. I’m not complaining. We do need greens.

If you brought the little ones along – they can order from the kids’ menu which was a relief. Macaroni and cheese, chicken tenders – y’know, the only stuff kids eat – wherever they go.

Group games, with a gamemaster
An hour later, the team got everyone to go back into Toad In the Hole for the second part of the game.
We watched in dismay as every team’s points was showed on the scoreboard and we came in, lucky last 🙂 Had I known that this was all tallied – I would’ve hogged the golf clubs and put in my very best. Or rather – I’m sure my husband would have done the same (and we end up with crying kids…)
From 2:30pm to the very end of the brunch, it was literally hosted games all afternoon with a quizmaster. We stacked cups, beer pong (without the beer) and darts (which my husband went absolutely nuts at). The final game involved attempting to swing a donut to your mouth, when it’s being tied by a string off your waist. Just picture that 🙂

We did the first two games together with the kids – which they loved, as we were actually doing it together as a team. They also had an opportunity to know what it’s like to compete – and watch our group go up and down the scoreboard. Note that the games change every week so you never know what you’re gonna get!

Mains and Desserts
Mains, and later on desserts were all served to the table. British fare – Toad’s very own burger with grilled black angus patty, Fish and Chips (beer battered cod), Guiness Beef Cheek Pies, Crispy Skin Scottish Salmon and more. I’ll be honest I was so full from the starters I was literally just nibbling on the fries afterwards.

Is there anything else for kids?
If the little ones get restless – you can actually drop them off at the Kids’ Club which they call the Tadpole Brunch Club. The younger two went in for some face painting, and arts and crafts. They also have playstation games for some downtime
Additionally – with each kids’ package purchased (ages 7 to 14) – each kid would get a game card with a total value of 50AED. This has a 45AED game credit to use at the Bunker Arcade.

Overall Thoughts
We all left the brunch, with big smiles on our faces. It’s nice to have a brunch where we could actually do group games with the kids for a change. And of course – there’s the option of dropping them in the kids’ club if they feel like it, but at least for most of the afternoon – we were actually together as a family. One I would actually be happy to go back to again, and a big factor to that is that the husband – really enjoyed the games. Especially the Topgolf gameplay.
