Tucked away on the second floor of The Dubai Edition sits Thia Skylounge – a lush restaurant and bar right by the hotel’s podium rooftop pool. We went over mid-July to review the venue, taking along mum who, just like me – loves discovering new venues in and around town.
Here’s how Thia Skylounge is like.
Sorry, The Dubai Edition? Where?
The Dubai Edition opened its doors at the end of 2021, so as of writing this piece – it is fairly new to the hotel scene.
I did not realise how close it was to Dubai Mall until I swam out to the edge of the infinity pool and looked out. A good spot for tourists who wants to be based centrally in Downtown Dubai as well.
How is the Skylounge like?
Walk out to Thia and you will feel transported to a little lush oasis in the middle of the Downtown Dubai. I know that line has probably be used so many times, but hey – it is what it is 🙂

You’ll see foliage walls, oversized terracotta pots, plants and more plants. There are wooden sofas with white seatings and cushions to the sides, with the smart addition of rattan woven chairs (for those who still are dripping wet, after a swim in the pool. But hey, who are we kidding, everyone plonks themselves down on the sofas anyways… )

Let’s talk about the food and drinks.
Thia’s menu is simple – which is what you need when you are feeling a little peckish before or after a swim.
You will find salads around 80aed average, hot starters like fried calamari and wings at 75 AED, a selection of burgers around 100 AED.
For mains you have chicken or sea bass, as well as vegetarian options. There’s of courses snacks, sides like fries and chips for those who just want a nibble with drinks, and desserts around 50 AED.
Have a browse through Thia Skylounge's Food Menu here.
What did we have?
Keeping it light and easy for a hot and humid mid-summer’s afternoon, we shared a burrata (95AED) to start. This was served with marinated pomegranate and sherry vinegar, and yes – it was a good burrata – smooth, milky and buttery in the middle.

For mains, I went with the baby chicken (100 AED) – deliciously marinated with korean paste. I did notice that this was also used in their hot starters – someone’s a fan of korean condiments! 😉

Mum had the grilled seabass (140 AED) – served with pea puree and basil oil. Little pricey, but she did enjoy her fish.

The cocktails deserve a mention : Blue Skies (gin, lavender syrup…) and Tropico (tequila, midori, pistachio syrup amongst others..). Perfect summer drinks. Next time I’ll come back to try the other two on the list – Cloud City and Mother of Pearl (Malibu, coconut syrup…). Love a good cocktail 😉
Did you say, there is a pool?
Yes.
The infinity pool looks straight up at the Burj Khalifa. It’s a beautiful spot, especially during sunset. I went in for a short dip around 6pm – the water was nice and cool. By that time most people had left, and it was just us and another group to the side. Perfect.

Overall Thoughts
As of publishing this piece, Thia Skylounge is very much still a hidden gem. It is somewhere you go to escape, sip on cocktails by the pool while admiring the towering Burj Khalifa in front. Stay till sunset when the sun dips behind the Downtown skyscrapers. And yes – I would suggest you go with the grown ups for this one.
