November 2025 Update : Please note that Britpop Brunch is now replaced with Brunch without Borders
If you really enjoy your music – and know your British Pop Songs well – you gotta do Britpop Brunch. We have done it a handful of times now and yes – there’s a lot more to it of course – ie food, drinks ( of course… .), and guess what? It also includes pool, beach and kids’ club access. All that is fab, but I honestly feel the cherry on top is a good set list. Before I ramble on on the music aspect, let us introduce the brunch to you.
Here’s all you need to know about Britpop Brunch.
Where is Great British Restaurant?
Great British Restaurant, also known as GBR is located on the ground floor of Dukes the Palm. Hand the car over to the valet (or jump out of the taxi if you’re planning to drink) and as you walk into the lobby – it’s the restaurant right ahead.
If you’re getting there earlier than start-time (1pm), expect a little queue as the doors will likely be closed. I know some people don’t like that but I love the build-up that it creates as the door slides open, haha. Welcome to Brunch!
What is Britpop Brunch’s spread like?
As you would make out of the name of the brunch – it’s British-themed. I always put a mini disclaimer when I describe British food because I’ll be honest – I don’t know enough about it, so if you’re a Brit reading this – please excuse me.
Expect all the much-loved roasts – chicken, slow roasted lamb racks, beef, and home-made pies, as well as a section for British Indian food. What is British Indian food? I had a few readers laugh at me as I tried to explain my way through my stories, haha. There was a large dish of malai kofta – which according to Google is fried balls of potato and paneer in creamy mild gravy made with sweet onions and tomatoes. Sounds delicious, right? Any other insights on what they have – please make your way there 🙂

Don’t worry – there’s more.
Cold Seafood Section with mussels, clams and crabs. A large sushi counter, live pasta station and a grill corner in the terrace area (over the winter season) for all your meat, prawns, and fish.

At the corner of the restaurant indoors – you’ll find their dessert and kids corner with as much popcorn, soft serve ice cream and chocolate fountain as you would like.

What drinks is included at Britpop Brunch?
With the bubbly package – you’ll get sparkling wine on top of red, white and rose wine of course. When we were there last, they were serving Italian Conte Fosco Cuvee Brut for sparkling. No complaints. There were Heineken bottles laid out on an ice bed at the drinks counter, and a self-service frozen margarita slushy dispenser. That’s why they call these ‘all you can eat and drink,’ hey?

Let’s talk about the music at Britpop Brunch
For the first 2 hours – there’s a DJ to ensure you’ve got the best music for the afternoon.
From Alanis Morisette’s Jagged Little Pill, to David Bowie’s Space Oddity, to The Strokes’ Last Nite – it was song after song of the best Britist hits. If you’re a music fan – it’s super fun to try and guess what the songs are as it comes on too. There’s of course the more recent tunes from Coldplay that my girls love, and any song from Amy Winehouse puts a smile on my face. I would honestly go back just to sit through the afternoon and listen to the fab setlist, with a glass of sparkling wine in hand, of course.
Come 3pm, you’ll get a man with a guitar. Michael Ross was playing when we went in May, and he definitely has a good voice. Husband reckoned he sounded a little like Cat Stevens, hah. Perfect timing as well we felt – as everyone would have finished eating by then and would appreciate some live music. It would have been nice though if he wasn’t somewhat hidden behind the bar counter – and if they could maybe put some high chairs closeby so we can see him better? Or am I the only music-crazy person around here? Haha. Note to self : Choose a table closer to the bar counter next time.

Is there any Kid’s Entertainment during the brunch?
So we have to make it clear here that there is no Kid’s Entertainment at the brunch itself – so I suggest you let the kids prepare some things to keep them busy during the brunch at the tables, ie colouring, books, toys. You do however, have access to the Kids’ Club and of course Pool and Beach, which I will get on below.
How is Dukes Kids’ Club like?
Dukesy Kids’ Club is located a few minutes walk from Great British Restaurant. It’s a decent indoor space with toys, arts and crafts and playstation for the older ones. Yes – you can drop your kids (ages 4 and above) in the Kids’ Club if they are getting restless and would like to leave the restaurant. Take note though – it’s a little bit of a walk especially in the summer time – so you could possibly take the buggy if it’s too humid.
Dukesy Kids’ Club shuts at 8pm.

Is there Pool and Beach Access with Britpop Brunch?
Another highlight for us is the pool and beach access that comes with Britpop.
Lazy River & Kids Pool
They have a lazy river with pink donut floats (with rainbow sprinkles!) – which the older ones would love bobbing around on – plus you can do it with the kids. Look it’s no Aquaventure but it is a cool alternative. They do have a shallow kids pool by the lazy river – which would suit the younger ones, plus chairs next to it so the tired/lazy parents can sit there and keep watch.
The Kids’ Pool shuts at 6pm, and is 0.5m deep.

Infinity Pool
And of course – they have an infinity pool with glorious view of the Dubai Marina and JBR. There are steps to the corners of the pool for the younger ones who are not strong swimmers. And Dukes’ is one of the very few resorts in Dubai that keeps the pool open into the evening – so you can keep swimming until late, which is perfect for the summer months.
Dukes’ Infinity pool shuts at 10pm, and is 1.6m deep.

Overall Thoughts
Look, all brunches have their pros and cons. Britpop doesn’t have entertainment for kids during brunch like many family brunches but c’mon – they’ve got kids’ club access, lazy river, kids and infinity pool as well as beach access at the Palm Jumeirah. Just come prepared – let them bring some toys and books so they won’t whine when they’re having food – and I guarantee you – you’ll have such a fabulous family day. We’ve been there so many times now – with, and without kids and honestly, it works both ways. The music is just the cherry on top 🙂

What is the food for kids? I’ve very fussy kids
Other than the live pasta station, pizzas – they also have fries, chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, fish and chips at the kids section. Hope they eat that! 🙂 (And of course a lot of desserts…. ice cream, haha)
