Healthy Breakfast Options @ Seva Table, Jumeirah 1 Dubai

It’s the trend now, isn’t it? Even January is called Veganuary – an excuse to detox for those who have over-indulged over the festive season. Well, that wasn’t really our plan – we just wanted to try out another picturesque spot for breakfast and it unfortunately happened to be a plant-based restaurant. Seva Table it’s called, tucked away in Jumeirah 1, miles away from the marina.

Was it worth the drive? How was the food?

Let’s start with the place. It’s absolutely beautiful. Lush, and green – and just for one morning you have transformed into Elizabeth Gilbert in search of Ketut Liyer. Everyone walking in takes out their cellphone to do their stories (me too!). They’ve also got two giant teddy bears on wooden benches for photo ops – I can imagine how many people have snuggled up to these bears ha ha – not the best prop in these times but hey, just don’t bury your face in them, yeah?

On food – well…. let’s just say, it did taste very healthy.

My “full portion” avo on toast was quite a steep 62 aed. Let’s inspect what’s in it. They use mexican Avocado..(Hass, I suppose?), on toasted Gluten-free oat bread, topped with semi-dried cherry tomatoes, cashew cream cheese, mixed greens and sprinkled with seeds. It was actually quite heavy for me (note: this was my second breakfast) – and well, I would have loved to have a bit more salt in it. I did ask what half portion was, and this was one slice of bread instead of two – priced at 33aed accordingly.

Amongst the rest – we probably did end up ordering everything else from their ‘All-day Classics’ menu minus the Granola which was unavailable that day. There was the ‘Mexicasian’ (55aed) – nori sheet with a lot of healthy things inside (quinoa, sprouts, avocado lettuce…), the Arepas (52aed, full portion) which is a Venezeluan corn bread filled with mock meat they called plaintain skin pulled ‘beef’, and of course the very much photographed Acai bowl (54aed).

My girls wanted chocolate cake and they have a ‘Snickers Pie’ (44aed) – which they as always – destroyed.

Feedback from everyone? Let’s just say non of us are vegetarian or vegan, and if we were, we probably would have enjoyed the food a lot more 😉 I will however give Seva a lot of credits for such a creative menu. I can imagine it’s not easy to come up with one that is completely plant-based – vegan-lovers and those who have food allergies would love it.

On drinks, a latte is 27 aed and they’ll ask you what milk you would like to have. I was a bit confused as I don’t normally get asked this so I went ‘Cow?’ where the server smiled and said we don’t have that. All that greenery and I completely forgot that cow milk is not actually plant-based. They do offer a variety of options – oat milk, almond milk and coconut milk. Upon request they do serve babycinos which was nice as well. My 2 and 4 year old had one sip of the Oat Milk, looked at mummy and said ” I don’t like it. ” O dear, I should probably convert these kids. When I asked for ‘Sugar’? It was ‘Maple syrup’ or ‘Coconut sugar’? Sigh, I’ve been living such an unhealthy life all along.

They do have a lot of interesting juice and smoothie options which I’ll be keen to return to try next time. Our friends ordered the ‘What a Melon’ juice – priced adequately at 40aed – it’s got all the goodies – watermelon juice, dates, alkaline water, hibiscus and mint. Want orange juice? No no… you don’t just get orange juice, you get ‘Sunshine’ for 26 AED or 40 AED – which has pineapple, orange, ginger, turmeric and a pinch of black pepper. Yum.

Would I return for the food? Honestly – simply because I am not vegan, probably not. For me personally, it is quite pricey for breakfast, and understandably so for all the organic wholesome food they use in their ingredients. I did feel like I was doing my body a favour that morning. I would however – definitely return for the ambience which was absolutely amazing, and possibly for coffee just so I can take another 101 photos 😉

PS – My girls loved the place. Spent ages on the swing 😉

Note : Non-sponsored. We paid for our breakfast at Seva Table.
