An Italian Iftar @ BiCE Ristorante, Hilton JBR Dubai

Having spent a week in Sicily in April didn’t stop us from heading over to BiCE for iftar. You could never say no to good italian food. BiCE has been around ever since we moved over here back in 2012, and I’m sure it was around even before that. There’s a reason why restaurants “survive” in Dubai – and it’s reassuring that BiCE is one of those who maintains its consistency.

So how was iftar?

Mum and I still talk about the ravioli. Such a simple dish – spinach-filled with ricotta – yet so perfectly done. The cream, the texture, the taste. It’s a difficult dish to win points when served in a buffet scene – c’mon you know that it doesn’t look very appealing. The colour is bland, you’ll probably pile it on your buffet-filled plate with everything else. But when you actually taste it – that’s when you realise you are in a great italian restaurant. The 3 year old demolished it 🙂

As you may have already realise – BiCE does iftar with an italian twist. The spread is small – but it makes it up with quality. The grilled sea bass – juicy, the mushrooms cooked with truffle sauce – appetising, I ended up mixing the potato gnocchi with it. The mushroom soup, we kept going back for more. And the pumpkin soup. With salads – definitely try the beef bresaola with rocket leaves and shaved parmesan.

They do serve the traditional arabic sweets, but we went straight to the Italian standard – the tiramisu 🙂 It’s a win-win for all as the kids ate a lot (possibly more than me!) – and that puts  a smile on any mum’s face.

The crowd was a mix – you get families with kids, you have groups of adults, you have couples. It’s quite a romantic atmosphere – low-lights and all, and if you sit by the window it overlooks like pool outside.

Iftars don’t normally end up here on the blog, but this is definitely an exception. If you don’t make it to BiCE’s iftar before Ramadan ends, do give their brunch a shot – they’ve a 241 going on right now with beach access as well! I remember when we went for their brunch many years ago now – do let us know how it is 🙂

What to do after iftar…. go for a walk 🙂 Pictured, mum and the 1 year old 🙂
