Posh Breakfast @ The Hamptons Cafe, Jumeirah

I never thought I’ll put the words posh and breakfast for a blog title.  Unless Victoria and David were dining here in Dubai. But when the cost of the bags at the table next to us is worth more than twice of our second-hand Ford Escape, you just gotta use those words. Oh, and yes, the place itself is elegant as well – did make me feel that we were back in one of the cafes in the coastal towns in Italy………… until you look out the window and see construction workers fixing reinforcement. Ah, Dubai – don’t you love this city 😉

The Hamptons Cafe in Jumeirah.  I’ve seen our friends post photos of this place on facebook and it was one of the million places I’ve added to our to-go list. So when we were planning to check out a couple of nurseries in this area, I sent them an email the night before to see if we needed to book for early lunch (as it was Valentines day). No one (ever) replied my email, so I figured I’ll just drop by to see if there was a spot. They can’t stop a walk-in!

Parked on the sandpit behind and walked in through their pretty lil’ garden. There were heart balloons here and there, big white fluffy bear on the bench. I asked for a table and they suggested that we go upstairs as it was more comfortable for us with the baby – there were couches upstairs (it’s nice when staff knows this). Found ourselves on a table on the 1st floor and at 11:30am, the place was already half-full. The top floor was packed soon enough as well.

Breakfast – how was it? Can’t fault them – mum’s eggs benedict came as requested – a little runny for medium, sat on smoked salmon, dobbled with hollandaise sauce. For AED59, it’s similar on price with those served in Gourmet by Kcal (click here for my review) i.e slightly steep… to justify the “fresh and locally sourced ingredients.” I thought I’ll give the “Fiery eggs and turkey chorizo  with Arabiatta Bread”. Something different. Thoughts are biased… as I was starving, so loved the tangy-ness of the tomato sauce together with the poached eggs. Pricey though… at AED 75.

They must’ve forgotten mum’s latte as it took them so long to come (everything else was already on the table) that we decided to start eating first. The cafe was packed by then. I’m always moaning about the cost of coffees, so here I am again.. (bear with me) – AED 25 for a cafe latte, and AED 30 for a matcha green tea latte. I’ll let them go this time, as it came on a woven tray, served with a glass of water, and a macaroon 😉

Other than the very long wait for mum’s latte, no complaints on service. I would have appreciated a response when I sent them an email the night before though… maybe they’ll check their emails when they find some time, hmm 😉

Would I return? Breakfast for two came to AED 189. Very expensive for us. No vouchers, no deals. You are paying for a very posh spot, and if you do go – I would recommend you sit on the ground floor…. or, on the top floor, to justify the price. For now, I’ll give this place a ‘tick off the box’, and try all the other places on my list 😉 By all means, go give this place a try if you’re happy to splurge a little for breakfast! Oh, and make sure you bring your nicest bag 😉

Disclaimer : We paid for our meals.

  1. Autsh, 189dhs for a brekkie for two. Would we pay that anywhere else in the world? No, but in Dubai we do. The place looks much bigger than I have expected. Your mum´s egg benedicts portion looks delicious, I always take that when having a brekkie out. Need to check if I get some discounts with any of our cards over there… 😉
Thank You for a nice post!

  2. Hey Hanna! Thanks for reading my post! Yeah, quite steep isn’t it for breakfast. To be honest I generally wouldn’t pay so much for brekky, with so many options around.. deals etc, so this trip to the Hamptons was a splurge for us! They’re not in the Entertainer unfortunately… please let me know if you find them in any other deal cards!!! 🙂
