Hakkatini Nights @ Hakkasan Dubai, Jumeirah Emirates Towers

When it comes to chinese, both husband and I are always sceptical with what will be offered and expect to be disappointed. Hakkasan Dubai, one of the ten restaurants which have branched from its original one in London boasts itself as offering fine-dining Cantonese cuisine. Food so close to home, we put on our critique hats and ventured out to DIFC once again on Thursday for a very precious date night. We were not disappointed.

Tucked within the boulevard part of Jumeirah Emirates Towers, we found ourselves inside a dimly lit chinese restaurant and chose to sit by the bar.  The blue-lit bar, the drinks neatly stacked behind, it reminds me of one of the many scenes in Hollywood movies when a boy comes up to a girl and asks ” Can I buy you a drink ? ” 🙂 Posh, classy – we felt like we were in a movie 🙂

We were there to sample their Hakkatini nights menu. This included two  signature drinks and a choice of a small eat, all for AED 118.

Of the two drinks offered, I much preferred the Lychee martini, a biased opinion I admit because I love lychee and anything lychee-based. Sweet and refreshing, strong at the same time – one I could have again and again. Husband preferred the Hakkatini, a classic drink available in all Hakkasans around the world – tangy from the apple juice and grapefruit bitters.

The salt and pepper squid came in a generous portion, deep fried and crumbly on the outside. Together with the sweet chilli sauce, it was flavoursome, and not too oily.

The grilled shanghai dumplings came with chicken filling, and chives. For a complete treat, you have to eat this with the chilli oil provided. Tasty.

Considering how good their food is, I’ll be curious how their yum cha on the weekends are like, or what they call it as a ‘Hakka brunch’.

If you’re looking for a different type of date night with your other half or with the girls, and you’ve never been to Hakkasan before (or even if you have, go again!) – I do honestly recommend you check it out over Hakkatini Nights. Go early, take a seat by the blue-lit bar, and pretend you’re a couple in a movie 🙂

Dubai resident. Stays most of the time in the marina as she can't be bothered going anywhere else after work and in the weekends. Originally from the land of the orang utans, spent the latter half of her life in the land down under. Always on the look out for deals, loves organising get-togethers, and occasionally steals some time for a sip of wine or four at ladies nights.
