A little bit of Mexican @ Tortuga, Mina A’Salam

I’ll start off by saying that I am no expert when it comes to Mexican food. This was just one of those unplanned Thursday nights where we flipped out the Entertainer and wanted to go to somewhere in the Souk Madinat Jumeirah area, having just spent a lovely babymoon at Dar Al Masyaf the weekend before (post to come 😉 )

We remembered Tortuga during our walks, it had a lovely outdoor terrace by the waterways, abras passing by, Burj Al Arab in the distance. So we thought, let’s check it out for dinner!

As a walk-in we managed to grab a spot on the high tables away from the smoke. Service was friendly and professional enough, no complaints 🙂

Beef Burrito – Flour Tortilla filled with cheese, beans, and beef 🙂 Small portion of rice on the side

It was one of those nights where I knew that I wanted a burrito so I went for the beef option. Apparently it’s not really mexican cuisine, as per the menu states, ha ha, but tex-mex!  Much to our surprise food came really quick. Portions are fairly small for the price I’ll say, and for 150AED I had expected much, much more. I guess you could compensate quantity for quality and though it was tasty, the beef was tender and juicy complimenting the melted cheese, and definitely filling for mummy and the little baby inside, I still felt like I should have gotten more 😉

Short RIbs (Beef) Taco

G went for one of the choices in the ‘Authentic Mexican Taco Mexican Street Food’ – called the Beef Carnitas Michoacan. 4 tacos with short ribs confit, avocado, cucumber and serrano chilli sauce. Cheaper than my choice, at 80 AED, it still is on the pricey side but hey, you gotta take into consideration you are sitting at one of the prettiest spots in Dubai 🙂  Taste was average.

They do have an extensive drinks list, live music and is definitely a great spot for friends to gather. Maybe next time we’ll give it another shot for their brunch? Have you been there, what did you think of it?

The highlight was definitely watching the turtles in the sanctuary next to Tortuga (the kids will love it!), and the lovely walk across the waterway along the beach 🙂 Guess that is what you’re paying for, thank goodness for the Entertainer!
