Japanese Bakery worth driving 30km to – Yakitate

Back in November, a dear friend of mine told us about this new japanese bakery in Al Ghurair Centre. Now, we don’t normally venture to the other part of town in the weekends because weekends are usually spent lazying around home and the neighbourhood in the marina.

She mentioned that it should be good, so we thought well…………. why not 🙂

And so we met up with them, and after a bit of a feast and also getting a bag full of takeaways, we left Yakitate with a big big smile on our face. Finally, we’ve found an asian bakery that buns of a reasonable price tag!

Of the items above I would recommend the japanese doughnut (I don’t remember the correct name for it), the red bean buns (the buns are soft, the red bean paste that they use is so tasty) and the green tea roll.

We stayed on to have dinner just because we wanted to try more of what they had. G and I ended up not being able to finish it all because we were completely stuffed, having been so greedy 🙂 First place that we’ve found Ramen and Rice Burgers! And so delicious as well.

Ramen Burger, and Fries for 27 AED.
IMAG1196
Rice Burger with Salmon and Vegetables ( Can’t remember price tag he he but it was less than 30 AED )

Just today, two months on, we decided we were going to drive back up 30km to Al Ghurair Centre to revisit Yakitate. The place was packed, and it was no surprise ay. It’s weird but we were pretty excited to go back there. I popped in, took the metal thongs off the shelf and walked around in anticipation of what new items they have come up with.

So many new things – a lot more savouries compared to our first visit. For those of you that know your japanese characters, they now have Hello Kitty and Anpanman buns, ha ha. The basic favourites are still there – Taro Buns, Pandan Buns, Custard and Red Bean Buns, mostly under 10 AED. Have a peek through the gallery below to see what else they have 😉

They also do bubble tea as well and I managed to grab a Matcha Melon Green Tea with tapioca pearls to go. So good 🙂 And dare I say better than our usual buys at Bubbles and Boba, Dubai Mall, much cheaper as well. Now, if only they were located a bit closer to the marina.

Would you like to open a store close to where we’re at near the Marriott in the marina? 😉

Dubai resident. Stays most of the time in the marina as she can't be bothered going anywhere else after work and in the weekends. Originally from the land of the orang utans, spent the latter half of her life in the land down under. Always on the look out for deals, loves organising get-togethers, and occasionally steals some time for a sip of wine or four at ladies nights.
