The 80s and 90s Brunch @ Crab Tavern Dubai

It’s 12:16am.

I didn’t follow the troupe to Q43 because I wanted to go to bed. But as I got into the apartment, I felt like I wanted to do very quick write-up, just cause I felt like it 😉 That’s why I love writing.

You might say that it’s probably not the best to write after you’ve had a few too many prosesco’s, but c’mon, you’re probably the most honest when you’ve had a few, so wouldn’t this be the best time? 😉

I gotta start off with emphasizing that this is not a sponsored post. According to the text on my phone from HSBC-UAE at 11:03pm, this cost me AED 197.50. I flew back last night from a work trip and was in the mood to catch up with friends. Checked out the Entertainer App for an evening brunch as a dear workmate was back in town and wa lah, Crab Tavern had a Friday night brunch on. What better time 🙂 As expected, they were fully booked when I emailed but Anri, sweet Anri had said she would let me know by 5pm if there was a spot. And she did 🙂 We had a spot on the high tables in the bar area and you know what, I do recommend you grab the high tables.

Why? Because the music is so damn loud. I think I’ve lost my voice talking but 4 hours on, we had such a good time with the lot. 6 of us, one table. Food – I wouldn’t say is at its best – it’s good – you get platters to share – combination oysters, crab croquettes, can’t remember, hang on let me copy paste from the menu ;)….. Fried black pepper squid, Boneless tavern ribs, JD Wings, Cajun shrimp, 80’s Prawn cocktail, Crispy white bait, Crab Dougnuts, Oysters – there you go 🙂

I’ve never heard of Crab Tavern. I don’t know where they’ve come from, it does seem very American but I feel like they’ve done their research and it works. Which bar does best in this area? Societe. What music do they play? 80s and 90s. Check.

Do have enough night brunches in the area?  Na, not really. I struggle to find one myself for the troupe most weekends. Check.

Food? Again, it’s okay. It’s more so I’ll say, the atmosphere. You queue for a bit before 8pm, it feels like you’re going into a bar. They did it right with getting you to pay before you go in. Again, check.

After platters you get to choose mains. I went for steak, medium. And it was good. Nothing spectacular, just a good piece of steak and fries, really 🙂

What about service? I was sceptical. Me being me. The fact that they were completely booked out. I was thinking, this is going to be a total disaster. But you know what? They surprised me 🙂 Justin took care of us at the start, and a few others came after (at which I didn’t get the chance to get their names) – including the guy with the afro who took a lot of photos for us 😉 The manager himself ( good-lookin’ chap ) poured drinks for us himself. I was happy. I was impressed. I have a lot of respect for people in the hospitality industry, and I can see how hard they work ay. I came here at my own cost so I honestly doubt they knew I would end up reviewing them, with the fact that I blog anonymously. Salute, salute, salute.

I did bump into a mate who was there with a really large group sitting in the ‘restaurant side’ and they struggled to be served. So hey, maybe we were lucky because we got the bar tables ay 😉

Music, that was the winner. When Fat Boy Slim’s Right Here Right Now came on, the crowd went wild. I cannot even remember the last time I heard this song. I don’t think Societe has this on their playlist. And then Sugababes Round Round came on. I was sold. Any chance of you sneaking in Backstreet Boys? 😉 Hee hee hee.

Look. They found something missing and they got it all right. With that, I was quite impressed. The music is so loud, it’s definitely one to go with a large group to party in. It’s not a heart to heart talk venue, so please don’t take the girl you’ve mustered all your courage to ask out on a date there.

I don’t know about the other tables, but I think we were taken care off. And I think if you’re on the look out for a brunch on a Friday evening with your mates with good music, book this one. At least book it whilst it’s in the Entertainer 2 for 1 🙂 Cheers, guys. A review that can not be any more honest than straight after brunch ay on a Friday evening.

12.47am. Bedtime 🙂

Dubai resident. Stays most of the time in the marina as she can't be bothered going anywhere else after work and in the weekends. Originally from the land of the orang utans, spent the latter half of her life in the land down under. Always on the look out for deals, loves organising get-togethers, and occasionally steals some time for a sip of wine or four at ladies nights.
