Sushi-licious at Blue Jade, Ritz-Carlton JBR

A lot of food this weekend 🙂

So beginning this month, when Monthly Offers released their deals, I had my eye on the Sushi-Licious deal at Blue Jade in Ritz-Carlton JBR. So excited, only 180AED for all-you-can-eat sushi, paired with selected Japanese beverages (in their own words, hand-crafted infused sake). I’m in!

So we had scheduled for Saturday, to catch up with two good friends of ours (waves to T&C 🙂 ).

Now, you may have known that just a few days ago, Time Out Restaurants had awarded Blue Jade the ‘Best South-East Asian Restaurant’ for 2015. My expectations rose considerably, and as Saturday came closer, I was getting pretty amped up to try this famous”award-winning” restaurant.

Haha, that’s the problem ay.

Look, as far as sushi goes, it was just, okay. G just turned around and said “No, it was crappy” 😉

I think the issue is, we had just been back to Fazaris for brunch the day before (updated photos to the blog here), and eventhough it was 150AED for all-you-can-eat with non-alcoholic drinks included, it was really good sashimi and sushi.

Here in Blue Jade, for the basic package (no drinks included) at the standard price of 100AED, you get this –

And you get to refill this, the exact same selection, as many times as you want over the next two hours. Now, if you include salmon to the sushi, I may be a little nicer but it was really cheap ingredients ay i.e surimi, vegetarian, and prawns. I know you can upgrade to the ‘Royal Sushi-licious deal which does include salmon, but erm, 200AED for sushi is a wee bit steep I think.

The sushi rice quality was varying from plate to plate. Sometimes too soft and soggy, sometimes just okay.

I can never understand when you dribble sweet-chilli sauce over sushi as well.

Although it was extremely filling, as G pigged out over 3 plates and myself over 2, it was more so just to ‘fill the tummy’ than that because it was actually tasty.

Now with the Entertainer Offer, it is reasonably priced. If you were to go for their drinks package (180AED for two), it will probably be a bit more worth it. But hey, honestly, G and I was pretty let-down ay.

I guess sushi is not south-east asian? Maybe that’s not where their strengths are?

Least to make up for the sub-standard sushi, the company was great 🙂

Another warning – large bottle of water (Italian, was it?) costs 34AED each. My fault for not asking if they have local water 🙁

  1. thanks for this! was thinking of trying it out with the family as well. do you have any idea if they also accept the entertainer for the royal sushilicious package?

    1. Hey Angella! 🙂 The deal does say when a Sushi-licious of “equal or greater value” is purchased, so I assume yes…. However, I suggest you call/email the restaurant and ask them! 😀

Let me know how it goes! We’ve yet to try the Royal Sushilicious, I’m sure it’ll be better than the simple one!
