If you much prefer somewhere quieter, away from the hoards of tourists, and a little lighter on the wallet but still equally luxurious, you could give Vedema Resort in Megalochori a try 🙂

We bid farewell to our cave-house  on Tuesday afternoon, and started our journey down south to the little town of Megalochori. It was a little difficult to find at first, and even after we parked our cars in the back we had no idea how to get to the reception (suggest to add more signs ).

When we finally found it and expressed our slight frustration, we were given a ‘Well at least you found it!’ response – I was a tad annoyed.

This all disappeared when Anthi appeared with bright smiles, welcoming us to the resort 🙂

So here in Vedema we stayed for 2 nights, and was lucky enough to have a later check-out as we were due to fly back to Athens late in the evening (Thanks 😉 )

We loved our Aegean suite, it was (a) much bigger than we had expected – even larger than the Absolute Suite in Santorini Secret! It definitely has a different feel though as Vedema is one of the first 5-star resorts in Santorini so it relatively older.

Again, (b) complimentary wine and fruits which was replenished the following day (the fruits, not the wine, hehe).

We had our (c) own private jacuzzi and sunlounger on the deck overlooking the pool, which we quickly jumped into after checking-in 🙂 Now I want to install a jacuzzi in our own balcony here. First I need to get bigger balcony. And a bigger apartment maybe, haha.

Though the view was not as dreamy as that of the caldera, it was nice enough (d) overlooking most of Megacholori and the beautiful pool 🙂

(e) Breakfast was a cosy affair, freshly squeezed fruit juices, home-made bread, fruits from the market, and all cooked goodness of eggs, bacon, pancakes 🙂

We found that eventhough Santorini isn’t all that big, it is still a bit of a drive (half an hour) from Oia to Megacholori. So I do suggest that if you don’t like to drive back and forth, choose one spot in the southern side for one or two nights when you want to explore that area. If I’m still feeling enthusiastic I’ll write another blog post on this 😀

One of the plus sides of staying in Vedema is that it is a (f) sister property to Mystique in Oia. We took the opportunity to check it out on our third day in Santorini 🙂 Unfortunately it was a cloudy day so I wasn’t brave enough to jump into the pool, especially when I couldn’t warm up in a heated jacuzzi afterwards, aww.

Lina served us a special cocktail as we lazed on the sunloungers. *Waves* 🙂

Had the chance to check out (with my eyes only, aww) one of the suites, have a look 🙂

Doesn’t everything in Santorini look so picture perfect? Now Mystique is sorta on its own facing the caldera, so it’s a bit more private than Santorini Secret as it’s not really off that main Oia walkway. If you prefer the beige look, sorta flint-stone style, maybe this one’s for you 🙂

So here you go, different places to stay with a different feel (and price!) – he he. On hindsight I think I would have loved to stay one night in Fira or Imerovigli  as well. Kinda getting a bit obsessed with staying in different resorts now 🙂
