The Pavilion Downtown Dubai

Update : Please note that The Pavilion has been closed since 2016 as it was situated in the same spot where Dubai Opera now is.

Back again, this time with G, to check out what The Pavilion had to offer on a Saturday evening (after a whole day in Wild Wadi! 😉 ). Probably a great time as well as we were starving.

This was probably the first time for both of us to dine properly in Emaar Boulevard, now known as Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Boulevard OR that driveway that you try so hard to get to when you get out of Dubai Mall so you don’t end up going home through Al Khail Road.

At 7:30pm the tables were full. The bench was fairly quiet with one or two people working away on their laptops. We chose a table to the far end.

Started snapping away, as the place was beautiful in the evening. The natural plant feature (similar-ish to that in Sofitel), the wooden bench, bookcase decos, the lights, it reminded me a little bit of Fume. I like it 🙂

Studied the menu, and we had decided on what we wanted, but the wait staff must had been busy as no one came to our aid after quite awhile, aw. I think that just a little hiccup to what was the rest of a wonderful evening out in The Pavilion 🙂

Here’s our two cents on what we had ordered –

Passion bull frego to the left (33AED), Spiced orchards to the right (30AED). I preferred G’s passion fruit/apple/mint/red bull concoction to mine – just cause it was sweeter, haha. My apple/elderflower/basil/ginger concoction was refreshing just the same.

The wild mushroom soup (30AED) had a bit too much pepper in it for our liking, and it must had been our first time having tarragon cream – again, not our cup of tea, so our review on this is somewhat biased. I do suggest you give it a try anyway 🙂 I did like my lentil soup (30AED), it was filling-as and I was getting worried I wouldn’t have space for the mains! Do suggest that they heat up the bread next time though 🙂

Things got a lot better with the mains. G ordered the Seafood Spaghetti which was the specials that evening. For 80AED we thought that was pretty good value, the servings were generous and tasty. Not too much sauce, just right. Felt homecook, comfort food.

My beef tenderloin (115AED) was perfect 🙂 We do tend to get a bit picky with beef (because New Zealand produces the best beef!, hehehe). But The Pavilion did it well. Simple, and delicious. I highly recommend.

With our tummies 95% full we were recommended by Manly (I’m sure that was his name!), to check out their desserts. We settled for the apple crumble with a serving of vanilla ice cream. G and I loved it. Both were not too sweet, it was just right – matched with a pot of english breakfast. G was actually more amazed with the double glazing glass they used, hahaha. Where did you guys buy that from?

At the end of the evening, we bid our adieus to our lovely host and started exploring the rest of the area. They have a study area in front of the kitchen. Check out those books at the ceiling 🙂

I hear The Pavilion does a fab Saturday brunch as well?? Ah, we’re def coming back for that!! Now, time to check out the rest of the new eateries around Downtown Dubai! 🙂
