Dinner at Mekong @ Anantara The Palm

Funky interior, explosion of colours

Much belated blog post, as we took M there mid-February for her lil birthday celebration 🙂

I had read about Mekong in What’s On and the whole eating in a rickshaw thing caught my attention. Something different 🙂

We don’t usually like going fine dining for Asian food because we’ve tried it all from where it’s originally from and would like to say that we know what authentic and price it actually is! But after reading up on it, then aha, finding Entertainer vouchers in our Fine Dining book, plus the fact that we haven’t been to Anantara, we thought – let’s give it a try 🙂

And…… glad we did.

In all other restaurants, you’re usually given bread to start. In Mekong, you’re given – this. It’s been awhile so I cannot remember what leaf it was, but basically what you do is take a bit of chilli, coconut, minced shrimp, onion, garlic and lime, and put it into the leafy thingy, wrap it up and om nom nom nom. Yum. Again, not for everyone I’ll say.

There were 4 of us and we ordered 4 dishes to share. Rice came with it, and it was black glutinous rice + normal fragrant white. O, I wish they had sweet coconut milk so I could pour it over the black glutinous. Reminisce of Malaysian/South-east asian dessert.

We started with a selection of hot mekong sharing appetisers – combination of crispy vegetarian rolls, thai fish cake, and bbq prawns.

Then, char siew (don’t get excited, no pork! But they made the chicken taste just like proper pork char siew – two thumbs up), King Prawn, Chengdu Spiced Lamb (I recommend), and baby bak choy.

Food was good, and guess what, with 2 Entertainer vouchers, the bill came up to 240AED for 4 people.

Not bad ay 🙂

That was, without alc drinkies of course. But least you know you won’t break the bank going to a really nice resort for a meal.

On service, mmmmmm, it was good, but nothing overly exceptional. We were happy, mum was happy, they brought out her cake with the lil sparkler which she absolutely loved – Thanks for that 🙂

Would recommend you to give it a try. And while you’re there, go for a wander around the resort. It’s beautiful.
