Calabar @ The Address, Downtown Dubai

When we went to the comedy show few months ago, and Ali Al Sayed was doing his stint – he made a joke about how some guy decided to call a hotel “The Address” in the city centre. And just to make things difficult, he decided to build 4 more next to each other.

Now back then G and I didn’t even know there were so many The Addresses. Well we didn’t know until two nights ago! If you’re planning to go meet some friends at Calabar, make sure you go to The Address at ‘Downtown Dubai’. There’s another one attached to The Dubai Mall, and they call that one ‘Business Bay’. Both Addresses are close to the Dubai Mall. Okay just to make it simpler, go to the one that has blue-ish lighting 😛

Calabar is what you’ll call a very posh, swanky, bar. It has amazing views of the Burj and the Fountain. The indoor area is really chic as well with a lit-up bar area and hanging glass lights. Really nice atmosphere I’ll say. But mind you – the drinks, and food, are very, very pricey.

If you were to go there, and you weren’t sure what to order – make sure you try the Dynamite Roll (AED65). It’s sushi, but coated with tempura batter and deep fried. And it comes to you real hot. It’s really really nice. We’ve never had something like that before. Thanks to Lucas, one of the staff that recommended that to us. I like different 🙂 We also tried the Fountain Roll (AED90), which was yum – but not too special really. G was not full so he ordered another Quesadilla (AED55) which came to us, again, straight out of the oven, nice and hot. Yum.

Drinks are also on the high end – I ordered a Calabar Mojito (AED55) – nice. A Stella would cost you AED45. So prepare to spend if you’re heading out to Calabar. A smart way to do it, would be to bring that 2 for 1 in the HSBC Entertainer Book, and go for drinks between 6-8pm so you can it for half price 🙂

Dubai resident. Stays most of the time in the marina as she can't be bothered going anywhere else after work and in the weekends. Originally from the land of the orang utans, spent the latter half of her life in the land down under. Always on the look out for deals, loves organising get-togethers, and occasionally steals some time for a sip of wine or four at ladies nights.
