Sandance @ Nasimi Beach, Atlantis

My first text to Dubai 92 FM and I got a call back from Tom & Dan on my first week here, to say that I’ve won two tickets to Sandance at Atlantis. Wahahaha, awesomeness.

Lineups that we knew were Morcheeba, Travis, Dizzie Rascal and Fatboy Slim. We got there around 7:30p.m and there were probably a few hundred people there by the beach already. Pretty strict I’ll say with entries – i.e no water, no food, no ‘cameras that look professional’. I suppose it’s the same as when you’re going to Vector Arena except that they actually make sure you don’t bring it in 😛

Out on Nasimi Beach, with the loud music blaring and massive screens – you don’t feel like you’re in the Middle East… at all. 95% of people are expats…. we bumped into probably a handful of chinese people, one couple that actually smiled at us and we ended up talking to each other ‘just cause we were the only chinese people around’, lol.

Managed to catch Travis play a few songs including Sing and Why does it rain on me. That was pretty cool 🙂 Then came a few unknowns playing duf duf house music and finally at 11pm! Fat Boy Slim! Haha! Never would we have thought we’ll see him here in Dubai.

Stage by the beach, across the water you see all the high-rises in Dubai city, and straight ahead you see Atlantis. White sand underneath your feet, warm weather, awesome music, yay 🙂

Our first ever concert by the beach. I’ll say the difference to that being in Thailand or Fiji is that, you don’t get mosquitoes biting your every inch because – there aren’t any mossies around. Second plus, the toilets are proper toilets and clean, not the filthy portaloos you walk in at Christmas in the Park. There are even guards at the edge of the beach to make sure drunk people don’t start swimming in the sea. Oh, and best of all, there are these boys that go around picking up rubbish, and any bottles/cans that fall onto the sand to make sure you don’t injure yourself.

Hee hee. I like.

I guess as with the bars, one big thing that I don’t like is the cigarette smoke. I’m not sure if it’s Dubai or just ‘everywhere outside NZ’, but a lot of people smoke here 🙁 Can’t do much really, just have to shuffle until you find a spot that is smoke-free!

Use LILONE15 for 15% off your total bill at Organic Foods & Cafe!

Door prices are AED295. Pretty steep but for a concert this big in Auckland, it’ll easily be NZD100 or more! You could pay for it or you could, try and win them. He he he

Come come come.

Dubai resident. Stays most of the time in the marina as she can't be bothered going anywhere else after work and in the weekends. Originally from the land of the orang utans, spent the latter half of her life in the land down under. Always on the look out for deals, loves organising get-togethers, and occasionally steals some time for a sip of wine or four at ladies nights.

  1. Hahaha !! It’s like zouk out but more orderly and less skanky. 🙂 sounds like an awesome time ! 😉

    1. Haha I’ve never been to Zouk!! But one thing I really don’t like is the cigarette smoke though… are people allowed to smoke in clubs in Sg/Msia? I miss the smoke-free scenes in Auckland lol
