A bit of Archery & Kayaking @ Sir Bani Yas Island

Hope y’all have had a great long weekend 🙂

Been getting lazy to blog lately. Here’s a mini post on one of the more active things you can do other than the highly recommended nature and wildlife drive (click here for info).

Archery

G got into it, I decided to be photographer / supporter / spectator 🙂 We got picked up from Al Sahel after breakfast and was taken to the archery range a short 10-15 minutes drive from the resort. There was another couple there as well, and we had a ‘couch’ to each couple, which was nice 😉 It’s not as easy as it seems ay, and it was good fun and definitely great work out as you’re using muscles you don’t normally use doing other form of sports. It was clear blue skies with a slight breeze that morning, and even with that G was all sweaty after 😉

Price : 145 AED for about 1.5 hours.

Tip : There’s no Entertainer, but you could always book the packages together with activities which works out cheaper.

Kayaking

We did this on Saturday evening, at sunset. Slap on sunscreen as it is still pretty hot then. There’s a designated area for kayaking about 10-15 minutes drive from Al Yamm Villas. It’s a nice drive there as you get to see a lot of the terrain.

We kayaked through open ‘waters’ for a wee bit until we got to the mangroves. Apparently every single mangrove (as with all other plantation) was planted on Sir Bani Yas Island many years ago. Amazing, isn’t it. Be careful though as you might end up crashing into it (like me!) he he.

Use LILONE15 for 15% off your total bill at Organic Foods & Cafe!

We were hoping to see a bit more but unfortunately there were no fishes, flamingos (closeby) or turtles in sight so we were a little disappointed.

Price : 170 AED per adult for 1.5 to 2 hours, fairly steep I’ll say.

Tip : Honest take, if you’ve done kayaking in the mangroves in Abu Dhabi or elsewhere, you could give this one a miss as it is a bit of a gamble to see wildlife (if that’s what you’re looking forward to). If you’re fine just with the activity itself and seeing mangroves, do it 🙂

There are a lot of other activities to do on Sir Bani Yas – mountain biking, nature walks, wadi walks, land-sailing, horse-riding. Next time we’re back I’ll want to do the horse-riding 🙂

Disclaimer : We were guests of Sir Bani Yas Island for the kayaking. However, we paid for own for the archery so we could try more activities !
